Default ATTN: Solution for your horrible BB Battery Life!

Please Login to Remove!

I didnt see a thread where the message is directly sent, so Ive made this thread to grab the attention of all pearl users who are experience horrendous battery life, such as myself.

If you hold down the ALT key (left of * key) and the BACK key (right of the trackball) you can see what current apps are running in the background.

The first time I recived my pearl, the battery life was great. After a couple days of messing with it, I noticed my battery lasted 2 hours talktime max. I was upset and determined to find a solution. Well, I've recently found out that many many times, the battery drains because apps in the background are still running. So please make sure you close them.

Also, to make this thread even more useful, please list what pearl, carrier, and package you have, and the list of apps in the background. Also, your estimated battery life (fully charged).

Example -
Pearl 8130 w/ Sprint + BB PV Package
Phone, Messages, Home, Browser, BB Messenger, Camera, Sprint Nav
Battery life - apprx. 9-12 hours / 2 hours talktime.

If anybody knows howto close certain apps, or the best profile for maximum battery life, let us know!

Honestly, this issue has been discussed quite frequently but I am glad you have the solution to your battery issue!

To avoid applications running in the background always use Menu>End (or Close) or Escape to exit a program. Never use the Red End key as it will place the application in the background.

I've seen many threads that just skimmed through this problem or say a fix but leaves novice user on their own. Nobody really thoroughly explained it. A situation such as this should be of upmost concern to many who are frustrated with their battery. Also, I thought it'd be a good idea to make this sort of a database so others can compare and discuss whats the most optimimal for battery saving (ie. having only the basic programs yields 20hrs as opposed to having about 9 apps yields about 7 hours.)

Here is some more info on Battery Life:

Maximum Battery Life - BlackBerryFAQ.com

The FAQ's are a great area for documenting these things. You might want to contact a Mod and collaborate on how to get one going on this.

Ah yes, i've read that about 3-4 times already. A little outdated but still useful.

Great addition to this thread thats intended to be a live, feedback fueled, database with thorough explanations constantly added and changed.

Thx for the support, I'm just trying to help everyone whose was/is frustrated as I was for having such an awesome phone.

Hey all. Is there a normal set of apps that always runs? Meaning, is BB Messenger, browser, mail, call log, and home screen always running in the backround?

Thx you guys are awesome. I have learned many things here! Keep up the good work.

Yes the base five, Home Screen, Phone, Browser, BB Messenger, Messages and with some carriers PTT (which makes 6). Anything more is running in the background!

Thx. Any chance there is there a way to turn them off? I don't know if it makes a difference or not, just wondering. Thx for the quick response!

No. you would have to uninstall them and that would render your device worthless.

Well, I havent charged my BB in 3 days. Total of about 1 hour talktime, light GPS use, heavy texting and I still have 70% life. This is how it should be.

Default Battery related: 1 question + 1 tip

Hello all,

I am relatively new to forums so please let me know if i step on any toes (I got big feet and don't want to hurt anyone). I have searched through the forums and not found this info. maybe i missed it.

1) a great tip someone mentioned here was alt NNMLL to change the signal meter to numeric. is there a similar command to change the battery meter to numeric?

2) I am sure many of you are already aware of the battery chargers but for those that are not, I bought a kit at my local store which included the battery charger, spare battery and ac plug for $100 Canadian (spare battery alone would have been $80). it is great that I can charge my spare without it having to be in the phone. this will allow people to completely drain each battery without charging before dead (apparently extends overall battery life).

BlackBerry Accessories Store - Product Detail

Cheers,
Darren

Wow, that is a really cool trick! I would also love to know if you can change the battery meter to numeric. I'd find that to be more helpful, personally.
