youtube works fine for me.

Try a battery pull.

Also confirm you don't have audio boost turned on (Options in Media).

Finally - you're going to m.youtube.com, right?

Could anyone clue me in on what deleting the vendor.xml file does? I've never deleted any files when updating from an older OS. What does this actually do?

One other question, is this the correct OS upgrade for Verizon too?

Deleting the vendor.xml file simply allows a different carrier's OS to be loaded on your device. Nothing is lost and it does nothing else.

Yes, this OS will work on Verizon 8130.

I wouldn't need to delete that if I download directly from Verizons website correct?

Correct. However, it doesn't hurt to delete it.

Tried the battery pull and nothing. Audio boost is off and yes I am going to the mobile site.

I even tried wiping the pearl and reinstalling it from scratch and still same results.

Any other ideas what can it be?

Sorry - no idea what the problem might be. If it worked on .81, and you don't see any strong benefits to .97, you could always go back...

ok, here is my review of the new .97

-when someone calls me and i hit the green send key to answer, it still has a long delay before it switches to the "in call" screen - very annoying

-the font on the "in call" status screen is very different

-the video camera frames per second has decreased! that's right, the quality of the videos i can now record are worse! this is the most annoying as i use the video camera often

can anyone else confirm these changes too on their device? any alltel version users out there that can test this?

maybe i should revert back the alltel version which i skipped over installing.

what is the procedure to install backwards by one version number? is it possible?

thank you!

Mine is almost immediate...like a second at most.

I've changed themes, so I can't say for sure...

Looks no different to me...I compared one I made at Christmas with one right now, and (on the Pearl) didn't see anything different between the two.

I was on Alltel before this, and don't see any difference in Video, do see a difference in getting to the in-call screen w/.97 - it is faster for me!

If I remember correctly, uninstall .97 from you computer, then connect your Pearl to the computer and launch DM...it should prompt you to install .81 or whatever is the most recent release you have on your device.

This is likely in the FAQ (link at the top of this page).

Yeah...here it is.

How do I downgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ.com

Just what I said...as long as you still have .81 installed (and you should, unless you removed it) you should be able to do as I said.

redflea - thank you. however, i do not have .81 installed. i went right from from the verizon software that came standard on the device to .97

the only reason i am thinking of going backwards is b/c the quality of the videos has gotten much much worse with this new .97

the FPS (frames per second) have decreased by half. this is the only big negative i have found with .97

i use the video camera often so it is a real issue for me. anyone else notice this yet or have a comment about .81 version?

What did you use to confirm the actual frame rates of a clip w/the previous OS and one w/the new OS?

When I view two different videos, Sprint or Alltel OS vs. US Cellular, they look the same...

To downgrade, just uninstall .91, then install the version you want to downgrade to, and the rest is the same.

If you already installed the Verizon version, and remove .91, you'll go back to verizon version.

If you want to go back to the verizon release, you can get it from the verizon web site....

well nothing official. i am just comparing videos taken with the original verizon software vs. .97

the videos from the original verizon edition are smoother, cleaner, and clearer.

I would definitely go back from newest to oldest.

When you do, take a short video and post it so we can do a compare...I'm finding it hard to believe that the frame rate has changed dramatically (if at all) due in the newer OS releases, but I'd like to compare.

You can get frame rates from Apple's QuickTime player...open the file and select Window/Show Movie Inspector.

REDFLEA - YOU WERE RIGHT ON! Thank you for suggesting Apple Movie Info...here's the scoop...

Checked out an old video recorded with Verizon original software and it averaged 15 FPS

Checked a new video with .97 and it averaged 8 FPS

WOW! How about that!

I am downloading .81 and will test and post FPS on that as soon as I am done.

talking about videos made with the 8130 device itself

what has your experience been with all 3 versions? what is your favorite?

Don't know how to break it to you....I took a video earlier today w/.97 and it is 13 FPS. Checked an older one from December (Sprint .71 release) and it is 8 FPS.

Another old one (on Sprint .71) is 13.13 FPS, another is 13.73...etc.

The FPS appears to be variable...I don't know the variables that drive it yet - the lowest FPS was for a video shot indoors at my wife's brothers house, the highest was shot in a gymnasium.

All were in well lit situations.

So I don't know that a down-grade is going to buy you anything...I'd do a bit more investigation first.

Tried the video camera in my living room, not so good. I haven't really used it to much but I will definately try it during the day tomorrow outside. The camera on the other hand I think works very well for a BB or any other cell phone for that matter.

Hate to say it, but I think you're wasting your time...

I got high FPS w/.91 and .71, also low FPS w/.71. I don't think you'll find anything different w/.81.

Happy investigating.

I've always been underwhelmed by the video camera...but then I never expected much. It's a "checklist" feature...

i am almost done with the "downgrade" process to .81

give me a minute to report!

all i can say for sure is this:
on my device .71 gave 15 FPS on average video record
and
.97 gave 8 FPS on average video record

my conclusion is this:

the lower software versions offer more FPS in all lighting conditions

the higher software versions only offer more FPS when in well lit lighting areas

I go 13.3 or something with .91, 8 with .71. I don't see any consistency there.

10.2 with .81; 9.1 with .97. I agree with above--it's likely light dependent.
