Backlight Notification for calls and messages
 

Hey

I just got my blackberry pearl last night. I noticed that when i receive a call, my backlight does not turn on...soo if I cant hear the phone, then Im out of luck for realizing that i have a call or message. Is there any way to change this? I played with the backlight timer and the automatic dimmer. I dont know what I could be missing.

That doesn't sound right. What profile do you have selected? Is it on normal ro maybe quiet? If not I would try a battery pull while the device is on and test it after it boots back up.

Im kind of glad to hear that that doesnt sound right cause at least now i know it is capable of doing that. I will try the battery thing tomorrow. Right now I am charging it. I did the whole battery training thing. I charged it fully, then I let it go almost down to nothing, until it warned me about the low battery, and now I have it on the charger and I dont really want to take it off until it is fully charged. Ill let ya know how I make out. thanks for the welcoming :-)

Alright, when I have a call it lights up...it doesnt light up when I get a message though? Is there any way to change that?

I too keep missing messages because of this. Feel like I have to keep looking at the damn thing every once and a while to make sure nothing new arrived.

Just turn on the LED indicator!

that is only blinks for a little while not until you check it unless I am doing something wrong

Calls will light the screen, messages and email will only trigger the LED.

I am glad that you are enjoying the forums. There are many conflicting opinions as to what is good for a battery and what is not. I think all will agree that it is never a good idea to deplete a lithium battery all the way or even until the warning. Charge whenever you will not have enough battery to last your next cycle (day, night, whatever). here is more on batteries.

I just downloaded the Pocketday application for my 8100 to evaluate it. It has an option to turn on your back light when a message is received! It's the only thing I've come across that will do that for you.

It will allow you to turn on the back light whenever;

your alarm sounds
you remove it from the holster (the type with the sleep magnet)
you receive a new message
