Default Pink 8130 verizon - keyboard Light

Please Login to Remove!

I just got a regular (silver) Pearl and my wife got the Verizon Pink pearl. Both yesterday. Last night we notice that my Pearl "button" and keyboard has a backlight all the time if the screen is on but my wife's only seems to work intermitently. The screen backlight will be on but not the button or the keyboard. As a result, she can't type well because she can't read the keys.

We went back to the local Verizon store today and they happily swapped out the unit for a new one but it appears the new one acts the same way. The tech person at Verizon said he thought it may be that the backlight does not come on unless it is dark. He really is only guessing. That doesn't seem to make sense since my wife and I were in the same room last night with the same lighting and my backlight was on but hers was not (all the time). My son also has a silver Pearl and his acts the same as mine. Verizon checked for a setting but there is none.

Is this a problem with the pink Pearl's and has anyone esle noticed this behavior?

Thanks,

David

Try covering the LED (This is where the light sensor is locate). When you cover it the Berry should think it is dark and light the keyboard. If it comes on it is working correctly and you can play with the settings. Menu>Options>Screen/keyboard>Automatic Backlight (=OFF).

I registered just to post this question. I have a Red Pearl on Sprint and it does the exact same thing.

Thatzmister2u response was spot on. If I take my Pearl out and the trackball isn't on, a quick flip of my hand over the LED gets it going.

I am running OS 4.3.0 so maybe it is a new power saver setting in the newer OS.

Please not that the keyboard will not light up unless there is very little or no light. The screen will come on for viewing during the day and in light just not the keyboard. The auto light function will make the screen very bright when it is bright out for visability (like in the sun). And it will go dimmer in the dark so that you are not blinded and will light the keys so you can see them in the dark.

I have a pink pearl and mine is fine. Just stuck it under my desk to check and as long as the backlight on screen is on, trackball and keyboard stay lit as well.

Not sure if it makes a difference at all, but I did the software upgrade from Verizon's version to the latest U.S. Cellular version.
