Default One-Sided Duplication during Sync

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? I did a sync and somehow I ended up with duplicate Calendar entries on my BB, but NOT in Outlook (tasks and contacts are not duplicated). I don't know why this happened, but assuming that it is a fluke, I want to fix it. The problem is that I don't have any way of know which of the duplicated entries are mapped back to Outlook. I presume if I choose wrong, I will delete the entry in Outlook. Since many of my appointments are set up by other people, this would be a bad thing.

Does anyone know how to see which entry is erronious? Is there a utility out there to automate the removal of duplicate entries? Thanks.

John, try this first. Pull the battery on the BB and reboot (while powered ON, remove the battery). Do the duplicates exist?

argghhh... I just don't know enough about BES. If you were BIS, I would walk you through removing your Address Book data fully from the BB, and resyncing from Outlook. I don't know about that on BES.

Perhaps, another user will be able to step in and help here.

I don't see anything that says he's on a BES...seems like BIS if he said "I did a sync..."

Check on your Pearl in Options>Advanced OPtions>Default Services that your Outlook email is set as your default calendar.

Connect your pearl to the PC, launch DM.

Run the Backup application in DM, select Advanced.

In the right column, highlight the Calendar and Calendar All entried and clear them.

Re-sync w/DM.

This assumes that there isn't any calendar data on your Pearl you need to keep....it will all be removed and replaced by Outlook calendar data.

After you do that, do the dupes repeat?

I am on BES (I believe that is the Verizon plan that does not include the corporate sync to Exchange Servers, etc.)

In your step 1, I go to Default services and the only calendar entry is "Calendar (CICAL). It is just a text field that contains my gmail e-mail address (for personal mail). There is no dropdown or anything that gives me an option to select Outlook.

^^This was my clue you were BES. Funny Redflea, when I read your post, I got to wondering how I knew he was BES, and could not remember.

So, again, I know there is an easy solution to this, but I don't know on BES. I am gonna send a BES 'xpert to read this thread.

Just to make sure my config is clear, here is how I have things set up....
  • I have one POP-3 e-mail account with my personal g-mail
  • I sync my work laptop via USB with my outlook calendar, contact, notes, and tasks. My outlook is set up with exchange server, which is where I get my appointments.
  • I sync my home computer via USB only to sync keepass. I do not use Outlook at home.

UGH, I hate duplicates. I had a similar issue with one of my users just this morning (but he had duplicate junk in his address book).

Here's what you (and your BES Admin) need to do to fix:

1. Do a full backup of the Blackberry (yes, I know it contains incorrect data, but a backup is always good).

2. Have the BES Admin set your wireless sync to false on the BES.

3. Connect your BB to PC, launch Desktop Manager, Go into Backup/Restore, and click Advanced. On the double-paned window that opens, select Calendar in the right window and click clear (this will wipe out all the Calendar entries on the Blackberry).

4. Back out the Backup/Restore and click on the Synchonize icon, then select the Configuration tab.

5. Click the Configure Synch button. When the next dialog opens (showing Address Book, Calendar, Memo Pad, and Tasks), make sure the Calendar is selected and click the Choose button.

6. For the Operation radio buttons, make sure Import is selected. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you skip this step you may wipe out your calendar in Outlook.

7. Back out to the Synchronize window and click Synchronize now.

This should move your calendar entries from your Outlook account to your Blackberry device.

When done, undo Step 6 above, close Desktop Manager, and have your BES Admin undo Step 2 above.

Good luck - I do not take any responsibility for these steps causing fire and smoke.

Can I FAQ this? With your permission, Juwaack?

We already have a FAQ for getting rid of duplicates if you manual sync (like on BIS).

Thanks for your post. I am wondering though, about this BES thing. I do not have an "administrator". This is a personal device that I bought. I use the Verizon $29.99 data plan (which I understand is a BB connection), but it doesn't include any corporate connectivity options. I have no OTA Calendar sync capabilities. I just use a USB connection to my work laptop and connect with Outlook calendar that way.

Does this change your comments?

Then I missed something somewhere (coffee not soaking in at an appropriate rate).

How are you getting your email on your device?

Your other option will be...

Good luck.

I am sorry for any confusion. Let me try to clarify.

I have a personal BB on a Verizon data plan that does not include exchange sync. I have a work laptop that has Outlook installed that is connected to the corporate Exchange Server. I sync my bb to my Outlook Calendar, Tasks, Notes, and Contacts using a USB connection to my laptop. I do not do OTA sync to Exchange Server directly.

I hope this helps. And, BTW, I really appreciate you folks investing your time in helping me. Once I get up to speed on this new platform, I hope to be able to pass on the good Karma!

I don't do corporate e-mail on my BB. My only e-mail is a POP-3 account to my personal GMail account.

So your calendar items DO physically sync to the BB via USB, AFTER they have been put there by the Exchange server. That does make sense, I can follow that.

Do as Juwaack described, you will just skip step two... or my link to the FAQ site will perform the same calendar wipe and reload.

Exactly. Thanks for the feedback. I will get a cup of coffee to screw up my courage and start the process! Thanks.

It is not a big procedure, no anasthesia required. Caffeine or alcohol helps.

This EXACT thing happened to me last week. Follow the step exactly and you will be fine. Post back here if you get stuck.

DO the backup first, that saves you in any case.

Hah, you spoke too quickly! Now I am getting a general error from DM: "BlackBerry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This happens consistently when I connect the BB via USB and it starts its auto sync. Specifically when it says it is reading the Outlook Calendar Data.

I am thinking I will (if possible) turn off auto sync and proceed with the plan as was discussed above.

<SNARKY COMMENT> And I thought ActiveSync was a pain... </SNARKY COMMENT>
