USCC Pearl GPS not working. I'm not sure if this should be in the GPS forum or in here. I'll give it a shot here though. I've recently got a BB Pearl 8130 through US Cellular, I have the unlimited data plan. My problem is the GPS doesn't seem to work. If I try it on BB Maps it just says searching for satelittes but never finds any. I installed GPSed on it and it doesn't seem to find anything either. I have checked the GPS settings on the device and the location setting is on. I'm curious if this is a wide spread issue with the USCC Pearls of if maybe I just got a bad one. Thanks, Matt |
Just a suggestion? I could see two issues; the first one is to confirm that your data plan is working. You can easily check this by browsing a website. As long as you navigate to a site, you should be good here. As second step, make sure that you're outdoors. GPS needs a clear line of site in all directions to get a fix on a the satellites. It could take several minutes for it to get a signal for the very first time. Five minutes should be enough. |
I've got the BB linked up to a BES Professional server so I know the data plan is working, but I hadn't thought of that possibly being the cause. I've also tried wandering around outside holding my phone out for about 15min (getting some rather odd looks from my co-workers) and that didn't seem to work either. I just wonder if it's just me or if it's a more widespread problem. Thanks, Matt |
When I connect to the GPS, it takes several minutes but works. I had to go to Options > Applications > Highlight BB Maps > Push BB Menu > Edit Default Permissions > change connections to Allow. This helped me connect faster. As of now I am trying to use a third party application also. I will keep you posted. Anyway did you end up fixing your problem? If so, how? Thanks and Good Luck Tim |
Wirelessly posted (8130 Pearl (Sprint)) I wonder if it could be blocked my the BES IT policy( if there is one). Also, maybe its locked down like verizon... Not sure... Just some food for thought |
