Default How is the Media Player?

Please Login to Remove!

How is the media player on the Pearl? I realize there are improvements on the way w/ OS 4.5 later in the year... But comparing to lets say the iPhone (or iPod), how is the media player with playlists and syncing and organizaing between the computer also?

Thanks

Nothing like an iPod or iPhone. You can't sync playlists.

Comparing the BB to the iPhone or iPod is tough. The BB (or any other device) has a really hard time standing up to the Apple products, especially when you consider the functionality of iTunes w/ wifi. Media is the foundation for the Apple Mobile devices. This is not the case for the BB devices and the difference is obvious.

I use the Mass Storage mode on my phone, making me manage my media on the phone manually (good old drag'n'drop). The Roxio app that comes bundled with the BB install, is weak, and has given me more problems than I care to discuss.

As a media capable phone, the BB does everything I need, and will only improve with future updates.

Anyone know if syncing of playlists might be included in OS 4.5, like you can w/ iTunes? Maybe someone w/ the beta can confirm...?

Also, is there an iTunes plugin or something similar that will let you do this? Thanks

The BB's media capabilities don't stand up to Apple products.

However, I would never want the iPhones email system.

I have an iPhone now... I used to have the Pearl and I miss hacking it, upgrading the OS, etc..... And the iPhone is missing out on a LOT of basic features (MMS, etc.)

So I'm thinking of going back to the bberry but media player is important to me. I'm just wondering if OS 4.5 will have playlist syncing or if there is anything out there for an iTunes plugin to desktop manager or something like that....?

Oh... So it WILL have playlist syncing......? Do you know how they are implementing that? Separate media program? Or added into desktop manager? Some other way...?

I have not heard anything about syncing the playlists. I have seen the addition of playlist generation within the Media Player.

On the subject of iTunes; you will be hard pressed to find anything that allows you to use iTunes with a non-Apple device.

Didn't say "syncing"...what I read on another thread was something about "automatic playlist generation."

You can create a playlist now on the 8130...you can add music to playlists by Song, Album, Genre, or Artist.

But the new feature that is being mentioned (from the PC Mag review of 4.5) is "Automatic playlist generation in the media player."

Not sure what that means, exactly, and haven't seen any details on it.
