Newbie: Configuring BlackBerry Messenger
 

I was told that anyone else with a BB handheld could use Blackberry Messenger (to avoid cost of SMS services). I have two people in my address book (name and phone number). I keep trying to add them but it's not adding. Am I missing something?

UPDATE: i figured it out, i had to have their blackberry e-mail within the addressbook entry.

If they have Blackberry devices ask them for their PIN. (Too see PIN) Menu>options>Status.

Add this number to the PIN field in the address book and re-add them. It will make messaging instant and will only count as data on their end as well.

I am unable to see the pin on my pearl via Blackberry messenger menu. When i click status, it only shows 2 options, nothing to do with PIN

no, its the main options > status not from within any application. you can also type mypin and hit space in any text field, or hold alt and press EACE

My apologies. From the Main Screen press "Menu" for your applications list. Select the "Options" Icon and then scroll to "Status" press enter and you will see it.
