Default Issues with my trackball

Please Login to Remove!

I've got a 8100 (AT&T) that has been acting up recently. Whenever I try to use the trackball to select (push in) it starts going crazy, opening and closing programs, sending texts and emails by itself and making random calls. It acts like there is a virus on it, I don't know if there are viruses out for blackberry's yet though. My thought would be to reinstall the operating system but I don't know if this is possible. Has anyone experience anything like this before or do you have any suggestions for me?

Thanks!

Was the device exposed to liquid or moisture? How long have you had the device? There are no viruses for BB.

Oh and welcome to the forums!

No, it's never been exposed to liquid or moisture as far as I know. I haven't had it that long (4-5 months) but I bought it of CraigsList so there isn't a warranty on it.

Thanks

Oh, I also tried cleaning out the trackball assembly using the instructions I found on here.

There are no viruses for the BB, so rule that one out.

It could be a faulty trackball, yes. If that is the case, there are replacements available to purchase. A good place is HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, Canada’s Cellular Repair Center

But first, wiping and reloading the OS could tell you if you need the new trackball assembly. If the issue continues after upgrading the OS, get the trackball.
