Default Desktop does not have Device Software error...

Please Login to Remove!

I bought an 8120 -- Cincinnati Bell Wireless branded -- and had it unlocked so I can use it on AT&T.

Device is activated and functions as expected.

However, I want to update the OS and unlock some themes. But the App Loader keeps giving me the following error:

The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator.

I searched around a bit and found that I should delete the Vendor.xml file here (which I have done):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml

I rebooted, re-tried the App Loader, but this hasn't fixed my problem.

I removed all the BB OS installs on my system (previously had an 8100), re-downloaded the 8120 OS from the CBW download site, re-installed. The version on the OS download matches up exactly to what's on the device. Again, I removed the Vendor.xml file. Still doesn't work.

I'm running BB Desktop 4.3

Any ideas on how to fix this? Do I have to wipe the device and start over?

Thanks!

If you can't get the DM to recognize the device and the OS I wouldn't wipe the device and start over. Did you install the OS while the BB was plugged in to it? Also, you're sure you downloaded and installed the proper OS for the 8120? Also, you might try rebooting your PC and BB.

It connects to the DM just fine. I'm able to synchronize personal certificates, for example.

I personally did not install the current OS. It looks like an OTB install, but I did buy it from someone who used it for a week.

But I think I'm just gonna have to wipe it and start fresh.

thanks!
