Default BB maps application

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, maybe it is stupit question, but I'm new to this so .
I've downloaded the maps from BB website, install it but I can't find the icon to start the application. It shows in Option>Advanced Option>Applications and in Option>Advanced Option there is also Maps and after klick, there is Default Service: None ,with no possibility to change it.
Does it mean that I can't use that application. I know that I'd have to have data plan to use it with GPS to show the way step by step, but I have read somewhere that one can use maps even without the plan. Plus friend of mine has BB8800 and it works on his. I just can get that icon on the screen to try it. Could anyone help?

I can't see, but is your pearl AT&T. If so, search on AT&T and bb maps for info on revealing the icon. The app is there, just hidden.

Also, do you have blackberry data plan or not. As bb maps downloads maps, you will not get that function without data service.

I'll defer to others regarding Rogers issues. I just don't know.

Also, I don't know how anyone is using Blackberry Maps without a blackberry data plan, if that is the mapping app that is being used.

Well I don't know either,he said that he doesn't have the plan, plus it just shows his location,he can't see or plan the way to some place. I guess it just take point from GPS an put it on the map.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.

BBMaps will need to be installed using Desktop manager and the OS installation software.

I did install it with Desktop Manager that I got with mine BB with Application Loader, is it the correct way? There is no OS installation software option.

It shows in Option>Advanced Option>Applications that there is:
BB 4.3 Core
BB 4.3 System
BB Maps 2.0.26 + others app's.
but I'm missing the icon on the screen to start Maps and that puzzle me, I think that I did everything correctly.

As John Clark said, do not download bbmaps from mobile.blackberry.com. Add it from the handheld software on your PC using apploader in desktop manager.

Backing up, did you download and install the handheld software? This is in addition to desktop manager.

ja-1, delete bbmaps from your handheld and reinstall with apploader. You will need to install the OS software (handheld software) on your PC beforehand. Do not download bbmaps from blackberry.com. The version you need is bundled with the operating system now.

You may need to edit the LBS.alx file and remove the vendor coding...similar to adding themes using the Blackberry.alx file.

OK guys, I guess I'm really stupid, but I think that there is some misunderstanding here.
Here is what I did:
I got BB from Rogers with CD software that I install on my PC it included:
BlackBerry Device Manager v 4.3.0.7
BBDevMgr v 4.0.01
RIM USB Driver v 4.0.02
RIM USB Serial Driver v 2.1.0.4
BlackBerry Desktop Manager v 4.3.0.17
Roxio Media Manager for Blackberry
do I still missing some?? (vis handheld software)

There was the BBMaps application on the device already in Option>Advanced Option>Applications, but missing icon on screen.

So, I downloaded the BBmaps directly to my Pearl 8110 from "http://www.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/desktop/download.do"
thru USB cable as that was the option on the BB web site, no option to download it to PC first then use Application Loader to install.
So tell me what to do, or what did I do wrong.

The CD contains Desktop Manager which is used to load an OS to your device. However, it doesn't contain the OS. You have to download the OS from your carriers download site, install it to your computer and then Desktop Manager can load the OS, or specific applications in it, to your device.

It takes a while for the carriers to release the OS. We have one stickied in the 8100 forum. I don't know if it's the same as the Rogers version. If it's an upgrade, just upgrade to it.

I'm sure there is. See BlackBerry Operating System Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ.com and follow link to Rogers download page. When you get there, you should see something like "handheld software". But also, FYI, you can use any carrier's OS so long as it is for your model blackberry.

ADDED: JC beat me to it. Following his advice is the easier path to a solution.

And, yes, there is a download on Rogers site for the 8110 OS. 4.3.0.93 is available for download. Use the site aiharkness posted above.
