Smile Just got the 8120...!!

I've been lurking on the site for a while now and I can now officially say I'm a proud owner of a 8120. I bought an unlocked one in HK and am now using it in the Shanghai area.

Since China Mobile still doesn't have the BIS plan for individuals, I am only using China Mobile's data plan.

Its a pity that I won't have the push mail service and the BB messaging. I really hope China Mobile can speed up its BB service plans.

I'm still trying to get used to SureType

A question tho. I noticed the word 'edge' on the upper right hand corner and I did notice that while browsing through some websites via my BB, that the speed is faster than my previous Sony Ericsson phone. Does 'edge' have something to do with this?

Thanks all!

Yes, EDGE is an improvement over GPRS and it is about 4 times faster than GPRS. It is not as fast as UMTS though.

Hi I just got an 8320 and am looking for a BB BIS provider in Shanghai and have heard that there are none, which sounds odd to me. Is this true, that there is only BES, no BIS, in Shanghai?

That's right. There is no BIS in Shanghai. There have been conflicting reports on when China Mobile will roll out the full-on BIS. I don't think it'll be anytime soon as they have their own "push e-mail service" but the service sucks (very spotty).
