Unhappy Sigh... ringers?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there. New to the forum, can ya tell?

So. I have questions about the ringer/notification setup on the 8100. The only way I figured out how to set the custom ringers so a specific tone identifies all calls/SMS/MMS from a specific contact is to create each contact a profile and an exception and assign the ringer to both. Then, if I want to set the phone to vibrate, these profiles and exceptions ignore this. Meaning it rings at inappropriate times. Is it just me, or is this setup obscenely redundant and plain silly? Dont get me wrong, I love the phone otherwise. But I just want to assign a tone for a contact and have it use that tone to identify incoming anything from that contact, and be able to set it to vibrate and have it vibrate no matter what. Yeesh. Something else I noticed that is beyond odd, anytime there is a new voicemail, it uses whatever ringtone rang last to notify me of the VM. Wtf. Anyway, are there any ways to remedy this headache, or am I SOL?

Thanks, --Emmy

So you're trying to set up a custom ringtone for SMS messages? Did I get this right?

If so, it's not that complicated. Just go to the profiles from your homescreen. (Icon in the upper right corner).
Then got down to advanced. Then choose the profile you want to change, e.g. "Normal" and hit "Edit". Now you can choose a custom ringtone for almost everything. I hope that helped.

actually what I think he's getting at is that he would like to have custom ringtones for not just the sms/mms messages as a whole, but for each contact have there own message tone. You feel me. I believe thats what he wants....and I'm looking for the same thing. I'm gonna search and see what I can find.

I was worried about the same thing. I wanted a custom ringtone for my friends, but I didn't want it to use this as an exception when I'm set to vibrate, I obviously want to it to vibrate no matter what. I noticed that a ringtone exception does not overrule vibrate, it will still vibrate. That's at least how it works on my 8130

I'm in the same boat. I want to know how to set a custom ring tone for each of my contacts, I have custom ring tones set for when they call, but I want to set up custom tones for when they txt, or send a mms.

Any way to do this?

You can do it by profile exceptions but it is a real pain to manage.

The voicemail ringer should be the same as your SMS ringer if I'm not mistaken. It's connected to one of those data ringers, either sms, mms, or email, I just can't remember quite which one
