I don't know if it's just me or if a setting has change in my BB but lateley when I end a call my phone always return to the phone log and I have to press end again to return to the home screen. I'M almost sure that before it was going directly to the home screen.

I'm not sure if that's happening since the 4.2 upgrade or if there's a setting somewhere to set the action after a call, I'm not sure ?

No, pressing the RED end call key will always take the BB back to the phone screen, and a second one takes it to the Homescreen. You are doing it correctly.

i think it has to do with who hangs up first. i THINK if it's you that hangs up, then it takes you to the call log screen first and if it's the other person then it goes to the home screen. or at least that's what i always see when i've been hung up on.

That could make sense cause I,m sure at some point it used to return to the home screen, i'll try it....
