I just got a pearl 8100 and i followed John Clark's instructions on how to remove the pre installed wallpaper. I have tried several times including on my boyfriend's pearl (which he has had for a year, so i had to do an upgrade on his as well, and they were still there) and cannot succeed. i have made the "removed modules" folder and moved them into that, i have even tried deleting them all together. For some reason the little buggers are still there and locked under the "preloaded" pictures folder.

I was wondering if anyone else was having these issues, i am using v.4.2.1.107 OS. I have been trying for days, and now it's become personal!

I am pretty savvy when it comes to computers and although i'm new to my BB i am already very familiar with the logistics and set up.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled on my comptuer several times as well.

net_rim_bb_media_240x260_b.cod should be the file to remove. It's 3.5Mb. You removed that and it didn't remove from the device?

this might be a dumb question, but being as i just got the phone they told me i had to call in to unlock it, do you think that could be it? i haven't done that yet so it's still locked.

Locked/unlocked has nothing to do with it. There is no reason to "unlock" unless you are going to use another carrier's sim card in the device.

nope that wont have anything to do with it. after removing these files you hooked the device back up to the computer and you ran DM again?

yeah i will when i travel so i need to do it anyway, but there isn't much more i could think of, i promise i did everything in that post step by step on two seperate phones.

yes i ran the desktop manager after moving the files, another time before moving the files, i have tried it many different way incase i was misinterperting the directions.

You went all the way to the end of the application loader process where it tells you what will be added and removed (not the checkboxes.)

Also, make sure you're editing the proper OS java folder and that the vendor.xml file is removed.

yes i deleted the vendor.xml file, I am completed the application laoder process where it tells me what will be removed and added in list format after you pass the checkboxes section (is that what you mean) and it doesn't ever tell me it's removing the wallpaper, i was under the impression it wouldn't.

the java folder i am going into is the one under the shared folder then under the 8100-v4.2.1.107_P2.3.0.83 folder.

I am redoing the process again now,

to make sure, i should have the desktop manager closed or open when i am moving the files around in the java folder. I have tried both ways, but what is your advice.

Have you looked on the device to see if that .cod is actually loaded?

no i have just been going by the fact that the wallpaper is still on my phone under the preloaded folder and it won't let me delete it. i dont know where to look up the .cod file on the phone.

I've found that it doesn't matter but probably best to have it closed. Definitely close it and disconnect the BB if you are going to install the OS to the PC. Then delete vendor.xml again after reinstallation.

yes that is exactly what i am doing...my instinct was closed too. yes nothing is connected.

you know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! lol

Look in Options >Advanced Options >Applications >menu key >Modules and see if that particular module is there. If it's not then we need to get rid of another module.

Have you actually taken the application loader to the point where it finishes and resets your device?
From the sounds of it you haven't because it shouldn't list them the next time if it has.

The only thing I can think of is that some of those may be contained in the theme. How much free memory do you have?
