Default crap, water damage

Please Login to Remove!

OK, so Thursday the phone dropped into my plasma cutter water table, which fortunatly was fresh clean water, debris free, and since then the phone has been sitting with the SIM out, mem card out, battery out, to dry. I turned it on a few minutes ago to see what would happen, the screen is kind of dark and fluttering.

Do you think more time would help fix this?

do they sell replacement screens?

I know how to disassemble, but tools arent with me, should I disassemble more and used compressed air to dry it out?

any advice is appreciated, the only thing not wroking so far is the screen(duh) and the power/end call button seems stubborn

Thursday to Sunday *should* be sufficient, depending on how long it was in the water.

My device went swimming for about 3 seconds recently (in the holster - also in clean water) and was ok after about 36 hours. I took it all apart like you did, and also blew in all the openings to get any additional water out. I then put it near a heat vent (not ON, but near, where the air could get to it) and it is working great. The moisture indicators are still white, too.

How long was your device in the water?

You should not have turn it on. Be patient and you may get lucky. As Juwaack stated, let it dry. In the future if you don't try to turn in on prematurely you have a very good shot of the device working fine again.

Sorry for you trouble and good luck!

or if you have Tmobile and the insurance its about $150 for a replacement device (refurbished). might also want to keep that in mind. Hope it dries out completely for you and starts working properly.

Not too sure if it's too late, but FYI, in the future take your wet phone and put it in a plastic bag with some white rice. The rice will suck any moisture out of the phone pretty quickly (<12 hours).

I did this with my pearl after it got wet and it works perfectly despite what the moisture stickers say.

its still better to leave it at least several days, even in rice. rushing it can destroy the device just like outside of rice.

What if rice got stuck in a little hole? Now that doesn't seem very safe to me.. going into the tmobile store.. "why is there rice right there?" "where?! I don't see no rice! "

it was in there for maybe 3 seconds, as fast as it took me to realize it did not slip into my pocked like I intended, find it, grab it out!

well tomorrow I will fully disassemble it, get some low pressure compressed air, and spray away. hopefully that will do it, if not, new screen it may be.

thanks for the quick replies

I would contact BBF Member ShaplessBB. He runs a cell phone repari shop in Montreal and also repairs BB's. I'm sure he can set you up....maybe even save you a dollar or two.
