Default AIM for Blackberrry Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I see at www.blackberry.com/aim that one can download the program, but it says for Sprint. Anyone know if it works with carriers for ALL Pearls, or for some reason just Sprint? I am with US Cellular. thanks.

Jivetalk uses the internet.
But most others use Text messaging.

Atleast this is what I have read.

The only program using sms I think is Oz.
JiveTalk is a slamming program. It runs whatever you would need.

So if I put Oz on my phone I can use instant messaging? Without paying for the data package? How do I get it?

there should be an icon similar to the browser icon in your applications list that says "instant messaging"; it goes through the internet to download it but i'm sure there is a zip out there or another way to get it on your phone

The only messaging application I have is the Blackberry Messenger. Do I need to download the AIM program and put it on?

yes, i was just saying that there is probably a zip file of it somewhere so you can download it through your computer instead of over your phone since you said you don't have a data plan

Great, thanks. I looked through some old threads, and was told that I wont be able to sign on to OZ after I have downloaded it without the data plan, given that I have ATT.

That still the case?

EDIT: Also, I just was told about Ramble IM for users on networks other T-Mobile. Any comments on that?

personally when i tried to use ramble it wouldn't even work for me but i don't know if that was just my phone or that i have t-mobile or what. i thought there was a way you could go online without a data plan and just incur some extra charge on your bill or something, but i've never had to do this or know this information so i'm not sure.

  • The Oz IM clients usually come with the OS. SO you don't need to downlaod anything..unles sosmething has changed....And it uses SMS.
  • All the rest of the clients out there use data
  • The AIM client on the blackberry site will never work for the 8100 Pearl unless the carriers allow it or maybe when the new OS comes is released
  • Ramble doesn't hold a connection
  • BB Messenger is for PIN to PIN
  • JiveTalk is great when I tried, but you have to pay a fee for the license
  • Web messenger (or soemthing like that is a free download also. I only used it for a bit so I don't know how well it works

the issue is not whether they have it or not but how they can use it without a data plan.

and i believe some people have simply uninstalled and reinstalled jivetalk and it has given them a 30 day trial for it all over again

So if you have a text messaging plan but not a data plan is it still possible to access some type of aim client on the blackberry? If so--how?
