hey i have the blackberry pearl with at&t service and i'm going to german, austria and rome for a week and i'm wondering if my blackberry with will, for email texts, calling, etc. or if i have to contact at&t and set something up

i don't think it would work... maybe at&t would put you on a prorated plan if they do that but i don't know

You need to subscribe to "roaming" service. There is another way: get your phone unlock and when you get in German, use German sim card.

You need to have Int'l roaming on your line, I take mine to France and it works great.

I believe that international roaming service is free to have added. Obviously, the roaming charges and data charges are not free, though. Just call AT&T and tell them you are travelling and they will turn it on for you.

The relative low price (20/month) of Tmobile's International BB email is probably the only reason I am still staying with TMO. I travel internationally a few times a year and it's nice to have this feature turned on only for the time I need to travel and it's prorated too.
