text message numbers
When I go to compose a text message the address book only shows the names and not the numbers, is it possible for the BB8100 to show the number as well? I have friends with 2 cell phones and I need to know which one to send to.
Thanks for the help and I apologise if this has bee asked before.

If you select your friend's name, the phone will prompt you to select which number.

Yupp yupp, I just ran into this again on my phone..
It *should* say:
SMS text which number?

thanks for the advice, my problem also is that even though I have set the address book to not allow duplicates I still get 2 or sometimes 3 entries per name. i think it is because it looking at the sim card and the synced outlook list. is there any way to get the BB8100 just to look at the outlook list?

If I'm not mistaken, the duplicates doesn't refer to multiple numbers under a name, it refers to the names in your contact list. So it wont allow two Janes in your phone. But you can have multiple numbers for that Jane

And default as far as I've seen is to show not your SIM phonebook, but your phone's book.. which would be the one you're syncing with outlook.
To add numbers to your SIM phonebook, you have to go in by and and do it one by one as far as I've seen.. (I don't sync my contacts though, so I could be wrong about how to get numbers to your sim card)

You can allow duplicate entries in your Address Book, if you set it do so... all that said, to the OP, copy your SIM contacts to your Address Book, then delete those on your SIM card. No duplicates.

so why does it give me 3 choices of "Nick the Knee" for instance. one gives me his "work" cell phone number one his home number and the third cell phone home and work? Do I need to go through the address book and manually delete all the duplicates?

mizditz101 03-17-2008 09:59 PM

*don't listen to me!* lol
Sounds like it is showing your sim phone book, mine does that too. Since it only allows one number per name I'll have the same name 4 times with each of their different numbers..
Do what JS said, and that should solve it :P

Sim card phone books are a pain =D

The Cell home and work would be the entry on your phone, and the separate ones would be your sim phone book

JSanders 03-17-2008 10:04 PM

What she said... SIM allows one phone number per contact. When you do get them all correctly in the Address Book, it will appear as:

Nick the Knee <press enter>
SMS Text which number?
Home xxx-xxx-xxxx
Mobile xxx-xxx-xxxx
Work xxx-xxx-xxxx

And the Mobile should be the one automatically highlighted.

so I have to manually go through 212 entries and delete all the duplicates? saving the one version with all the numbers!

JSanders 03-17-2008 10:14 PM

It's a lot easier if you would add them all to the BB, then sync to Outlook, and edit there. 212 is not that many really... do a few at time, it won't seem to be a big job.

Welcome to the one pain in the butt with phonebooks and sim cards!
And when you copy them all from your sim card, they don't go into "home" or "cell" they just throw them all in "work" leaving you to change them yourself...
*shakes fist*

Symon-the-fireman 03-17-2008 10:15 PM

thanks, what else was I going to do with my afternoon :-)

mizditz101 03-17-2008 10:17 PM

Well, whatever you WERE gonna do, now you're going to edit your phonebook!
Good thing to do while at work
