Default 8130 txt workaround?

Please Login to Remove!

Has any VZN user been able to avoid the SMS charges and txt via an email client back and forth for free? I know Tmob users have done this but I don't know about VZN.

Well.... an email is an email is an email. If you send an email to another user's SMS portal (i.e. [email address]) and they receive it as an SMS, you are not charged for an outbound text but they are charged for the inbound text. The problem is that often times the recipient cannot simply reply to that and have it reverse route back to you as an email.

I dont get SMS charges because I signed up for a plan that has unlimited text. The words work around usually means you are cheating the system and thats not liked by alot of the patrons here.

When I had Verizon, If I would email myself stuff (it's how I got ringtones) it still counted towards my monthly text/pix...
I don't know if that helps, but they always showed up on my bill
(Sure I had a text/pix plan, so it didn't matter)

No, that's not true actually. What I was referring to was a way of avoiding txt charges/usage by using email instead (which you pay for). Legally of course. I know it can be done, I was just looking for anyone who has done it using VZN and the pearl. So if anybody can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

You can use teleflip. Just send an email to the recipient's phone number and put @teleflip.com at the end. (i.e. [email address]) Teleflip automatically puts in the correct carrier sms address. All the recipient has to do is reply and it will be sent as an email. It's a free service, the only downside is they add an ad for their service at the bottom of the message.

Thanks, that's what I was asking about. I don't know if there are any other similar services out there that don't include the ad (or not). For some, the extra $5-15 monthly for txt adds up when you're already paying for voice/data. This lets an email phone send to a non-email phone without extra charges (why pay for both really). Personally I don't care, but some people do, especially when their wife has a phone as well.
