Default Wireless on Pearl

Assuming I get a pearl with Wifi say on ATT network, what would I use the wifi for? I mean I have wifi in my house, but whoopie, I also have a computer.

I understand you can use it at hotspots, but they aren't exactly free for the most part and I don't want to be paying a subscription to every one of them.

I guess if someone could explain the advantage, that would be helpful. Seems better to just have a 3g phone like verizon or sprint or wait for a 3g blackberry from ATT.

The advantages are that, when you can find free wifi , it is sometimes faster to use the wifi for internet instead of your carrier's internet. Also, if you have the right program, you can print documents from a network computer.
