I've done a search and found loads relating to the subject but many conflicting advices, so I would appreciate a response to this.

I would like to seperate the incoming SMS from the emails, in two different icons on the front screen.

To do it I think I need to upgrade the operating system as I'm currently on v4.2.0.67 (which is very stable)

My desk top manager is v4.2.0.14

What operating sysytem should I upgrade to and are there any disadvantages?
Do I need to upgrade the desk top manager and if I do what should that change to?

Where do I get these new software versions.

You could upgrade both... the DM to version 4.2 Service Pack 2, or DM 4.3. Many of think 4.2 SP 2 is more stable, however.

On the OS, look at the top of this 8100 and see the Sticky Note on the latest OS for the 8100... and read the thread there. You will note users comments on pluses and minuses...

You using 4.2 now, right? From your messages folder, open options, select general options, and scroll down to the bottom. Change the setting for SMS and email inboxes to separate.

Thats what I thought, but the option does not exist in the menu, the last item is "keep messages".

I thank you both for your replies, however the comments relating to upgrading opperating system held within the sticky are not particularly helpful unless you understand what they talking about! and what is "Rogers"

Rogers is a wireless company in Canada. As long as you follow the directions in the thread, it won't matter that it is a Rogers' OS release.

If you follow the instructions psoted there to upgrade, you will be fine.

I agree wit JSanders, but I don't understand why you don't have this capabilty now. Perhaps try a hard reset and see if that fixes the menu, and/or try a different theme.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong about you having this feature now already.
