Ok, about a week ago I noticed that I was unable to get online through my BB, I figured it was just a network issue taht would be fixed in a day or two, finally after 3 days I wnet into the Verizon store where I bought my phone and the customer rep there had to call Tech Support.. From what I understand they had to reset my phone on the Verizon Servers and then I was able to recieve pic/video messages and browse the internet again.

Today it has gone into this same issue and once again I am without any media services!!! Now I have to go back in and hope that the same guy is working so that he knows what he has to do and can get it done quickly... I'm just tired of having issues with this phone, I love it, I just like it better when it works!

Anyone else on verizon have this issue??? It's only been a week and I have to deal with it all over again!!!!

have you switched devices at all? or changed services with verizon? the problem is definately a network issue but it seems that they havent added your phone properly to be recognized for data usage on their network.

Nope, besides switching to my simple phone to the BB I haven't switched devices or plans....

My sales rep emailed me back today and said that he hasn't seen such issues with any of the Pearls before now, but that there is obviously something wrong, and that I should switch to the 8830 which has had less problems.... I told him I'll only do it if they give me the 8830 in replacement of the 8130 for no charge and that I would hope they would replace all of the accessories I have purched in the past 3 weeks as well since this is obviously not my fault!

If nothing else I will demand a new handset of the 8130 line and see if it's just my phone alone that has these issues....

Anyone have any pros or cons about switching from the 8130 to the 8830??

well the 8830 is more of a business device, no camera, but full keyboard.
the pearl is probably a better media device.

That is a strange problem i would replace the pearl if you like it.

Ah, no camera ia a drag.... But I would like the full keyboard, and it comes in red. (go Buckeyes!) I dunno yet what I really want to do, I really do like the Pearl b.c I have terribly small hands and I like the size...

The Verizon guy told me that this might occasionally happen to my phone and he said all I had to do was log into blackberry site for verizon (https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw&locale=en) and go to SERVICE BOOKS and hit the button that reads SEND SERVICE BOOKS and that would reset everything and I'd have connectivity again. If you aren't with Verizon this site is a blackberry site where I set up all my email accounts to be forwarded to my phone. Hope that might help with your issue.

Ah thanks for that suggestion, I just tried it, but no email-browser-ect will work :( I really appreciate that info though, I hadn't tried that yet!

This loss of connectivity is discussed elsewhere, apparently worse with the 8830. I searched for this topic because it happened to me today after 5 weeks. One suggestion was that Opera Mini loaded caused it to occur, but this was disputed by others. I did load Opera Mini but over a week ago. So I don't know why I lost my BB connection today; I had to do a reset. Others said turning connections on/off or radio on/off did it too. I hope this isn't frequent.

Have you tried contacting RIM directly? even though verizon is your carrier, RIM actually controls the blackberry internet service which controls your browser and data services for the blackberry. you should talk to them and make sure you device is setup correctly on their network. I have verizon too and to be honest the tech guys at verizon dont know sh*t about the blackberrys and you would be better calling verizon and telling them to foward you to RIM

I HATE talking to tech support (maybe it has to do with the fact I lived with a tech guy for a while..lol.) and I refuse to bother with them directly.. Instead, I go to the Verizon store and make them call them, I just lose my patience too quickly when they keep saying I just need to turn the phone off and back on! Yah, I never thought of doing that - Grr..
