| how do i take pictures? Please Login to Remove! Um I was in class today and I wanted to take pictures but my BB 8100 kept making the shutter sound. So i was sitting in the class when I decided to take a pic of people outside the classroom. Oh I sit next to a huge window and I can see people walking by. But the window is loaded up with posters and stuff that my teacher glued on the window. She always put the best posters up on the window and mine never get glued up there. Yea anyway I took a pic but the fone made a shutter sound while we were reading a book in class. So my stupid techer took my fone away and gave it back to me after the class. I remember putting my fone in vibrate or silent and still the camera made a sound. Is there a way to make the sound silent and stuff? Ok thanks

Ok thanks | not unless you have headphones plugged into the device. its actually a regulation now that the shutter sound on devices cant be manually turned off due to privacy laws. apparently they think by turning off the shutter it makes it easy to take pictures of things or people without being noticed and with all this terrorism and whatnot going on and all the perverts out there it should be obvious why such a regulation would have gone into effect. RIM confirmed this. | | Offline

| Maybe I shouldn't share this but I will
Call your voicemail, and then go in and turn on the camera...
As long as you turn down the volume on the phone, you wont hear the computer voice giving you options, and it silences the outloud shutter sound
Other than those two options (I've not tried VirexInc's, however) there is no way to actually disable the shutter sound, even on the "silent" profile

And what regulation is this? How do they do this on high end film based cameras? I am just curious.

E- | Magic dust? =)
Now that I think about it, the shutter sound on my digi cam is turned off.. and it's almost a brand new phone (Christmas this year)
I apologize if this seems off-topic, now that I post it it kind of does to me, but now I just couldn't resist.. I mean, of course the government has magic dust!

To get technical on you, if you delete the sound module from your OS, it will not make the sound | | Offline

What else would that disable though?
Hearing your phone ring? texts? This is something I might just have to look in to!

E- | i asked the same question because i had a somewhat new verizon phone before my pearl and i was able to disable the shutter sound. the CSR at RIM told the regulations that govern their company prohibit them from making a device with the shutter sounds being able to be manually disabled. now wether this is a govt contract issue or the fact that they are canada based idk | | Offline

| Doesn't mean it wasn't worth a shot!
They didn't think of the phone call work around, what makes us think they'd instantly think of the modules?
who knows, but it was worth a shot.

All attempts kept negating any camera function. But after all, the security is one of the main reasons to buy BlackBerry.

in programming there is no such thing as house with no doors. RIM just turned off the lights in the house and we are looking blind for the door. trust me there is a work around, we just have to find it | | Offline
