Default Blackberry in Jamaica

We are leaving for Jamaica next Sat and was wondering if text messaging will work over there?? I've heard that if you are out of network that internet and text messaging will not work. Hoping this is the case so I can keep my phone on in case of emergencies back home without incuring extra fees for unwanted text messages.

Have fun, man . . . anyway, Digicel Caribbean: Group seems to be the company that provides CDMA service in Jamaica, the others are on GSM 850/1900. . . You need to call VZW CSR to find out roaming agreement with Digicel Jamaica or another mobile service provider... Also, inform them of your planned trip overseas to make sure that your account gets authorized for international roaming, if need be.

more than likely your phone wont work unless you have a world phone edition. so for some reason should you be able to get them when you are there then expect some serious roaming charges

I rented a BB for a trip to Jamaica, and it stopped working once I got a few minutes outside of the airport (Digicell). No voice or data in Negril for me.

I live in Jamaica and I can tell you that it should work in Jamaica. Miphone (Oceanic Digital) has roaming arrangements for CDMA as that is their platform base. I have only ever had problems whilst roaming outside of Jamaica because my phone (prepaid) was not topped up ad I was unable to receive calls. The GSM networks provide roaming Cabe and Wireless and Digicel. Works better with quad band phones. This link will show you who can roam with Miphone
