Default ATT 8120 WIFI problems

Please Login to Remove!

I just purchased an 8120 through ATT. Before I placed the Sim card in the phone, I setup the wifi and was able to use it. After placing the SIM card, only the edge works. Any ideas? Will installing another carriers software help?

you realize you cant use edge and wifi at the same time right? you have to go into your wifi options and enable it to override the edge network when you wanna use it

Default overriding edge

I can't figure out how to override the edge. ATT and RIM didn't help either.

If you go to....Options--> Mobile Network--> Connection Preference
You can set to Mobile Network Only, Mobile Network Preferred, Wi-Fi Only or Wi-Fi Preferred.

Also if you go to manage connections, make sure the Wi-Fi is on. Mine is set to Wi-Fi preferred and whenever I come to a Wi-Fi source that I have set, it will connect as a priority over Mobile Network.

Hope this helps.

How do you set it to Wi-Fi preferred?

No luck. I have thought about trying to load Orange software because it is a little newer, but I don't know if it would make a difference.

Hi, I am using the latest Orange software so maybe its an upgrade in that.

Is there not a setting if you go to
Main Menu--> Options--> Mobile Network--> Connection Preference? (Screenshots below if that helps at all??)

That would be perfect. I don't have that screen. I am going to see if I can get this over to ATT. I wonder if I load Orange software if I it will create this or if the SIM card will override this?

Doesn't work with O2. I've got the Orange OS loaded onto my Pearl but when I go to Options>Mobile Network I don't get the connection preferences option.

It's taken forever to get the wifi working properly on O2 and then you find out it's still restricted *sigh*

That is a different screen than the ATT screen. Each carrier seems to have its own modifications.
