Default My Daughter and a Pearl?

Please Login to Remove!

My daughter is off to college next year and she is also up for a phone upgrade. Currently has a V3 Razor and was thinking about the Pearl (pink of course). My question is, does a Blackberry make sense for a teenager? I always thought of them as a business tool but does the Pearl cross over into the general phone, text and email market? It's her money but I don't want her to make a mistake. Any thoughts?

People do use blackberrys for voice and text and PIM functions. My daughter is one. Make sure your carrier will allow a blackberry on a voice-only plan.

Another point, by the way, at least on tmobile, unlimted data is not much more than unlimited text.

Agreed. My wife has a Pink Pearl, strictly for personal use. Loves the calender functions that it has and spends most of the day texting or e-mailing and browsing the web with it. It is a very consumer-friendly product for non-business users.

Ah, ok. Couldn't see carrier via wap.

If perhaps daughter is choosing her own carrier, there still may be a blackberry in her future if she really is going to go voice-only.

The OP did not mention anything about no data plan, in fact he specifically mentions e-mail as one of the feature for his daughter. Don't mean to sound rude, just trying to clairify.

My wife and teenage daughter both use Pearls. They love them. A safe bet is that your daughter would too.

i just turned 16 and the bb pearl that my dad gave to me few days ago is kinda starting to suck. It has no myspace or facebook link, the menu is just made up of text in plain white color, and the mp3 is kinda slow to play. I'm still learning how to type letters and numbers too

I work/teach at a University. I know the Pearl is popular with many students. I think it's an excellent choice for a college student for many reasons.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

Let me warn you that many colleges/universities are dictating a particular wireless provider and plans as a REVENUE REPLACEMENT for the old landline dorm phones they used to lease to students but now won't sell. It's terribly unfair, but in some cases parents/students are being billed for the wireless service whether they want it or not. Right: you have no choice. So, make sure your daughter's school doesn't have anything like that. Kelly Carter

of course the above only applies if you reside on campus.

I think a pearl makes perfect sense for a college student.

You don't have to have the email to take advantage of the great txt and other features. Also, if she wants the email/browsing on her phone, you could have her pay for the package (I assume you are paying for her phone).

GL!
