Since the memory issue is handled best by making sure you close out of programs, I find myself constantly trackballing to the bottom of the menu to get to "close." I haven't found a key that does it. "C" gets there sometimes but in some menus, it takes multiple hits. So I'm wondering if there is a faster way to close than trackballing to the bottom each time. thanks.

press and hold the back button and it should close the app for you

Most apps can be closed with the escape key (right of trackball.) A few apps require Menu >Close.
