Angry Voicemail SMS Notification Help!!!!

Please Login to Remove!

I keep getting an SMS notification every time I get a voicemail. This is extremely annoying. I have Verizon I went into my VM account and there wasn't an option to fix it. Then I have been reading threads where it's a BB thing but I can't find where anyone has been able to turn it off yet... HELP!

First, welcome to the BBF!

It is not a BB thing, it is a carrier thing. Their voicemail notification comes as a form of SMS, and can't be blocked by the BB.

Please elaborate on list of carriers...is there a good reference site that compares the larger carriers and identifies all this "little" things that keep popping up? Thx, AG

Elaborate on what?

I know Sprint, TMo and AT&T do the same, and it can't be disabled. It is a carrier issue. I don't know about the little things popping up, I personally prefer to know I have received a voicemail... rather than the carrier keeping it a secret.

For once I must disagree with you JSanders. Im not sure about T-Mo and VZW, but AT&T definitely doesn't send me a text when I get a voicemail.

Yep, does me. It is not an SMS per what you normally think, but it is a notification which is sent from your carrier via the SMS network. Does that make sense?

If you don't, and I do, I don't know the difference.

Correct, I don't get a text message either, listed in my messages. But I have been 'told' that notification, which annoys some users, is a type of SMS. Aren't we talking about the same thing?

There used to be a time when carriers send SMS txt msg saying that you have voicemail, but that was suppose to be an option rather than a default. . . . Back then carriers made nickels and dimes out of this, in millions, if a subscriber did not have opt to subscribe to txt plans. Customers got tired of these nickle and dime charges, so changes were effected...

JS, I think OP & option94 refer to actual text message showing as SMS in Inbox... If I'm not mistaken, you on the other hand, are refering to VM notification as icons, and you're statement that it gets delivered to handheld via "SMS" protocol may be possibly the case. . .

As far as the OP's concern, you may want to call your carrier to find out what they can do to change your set-up.

Most carriers use the SMS system to send voicemail alerts, however, in my past experience, it has been very transparent and the receiver wouldn't actually know they were receiving a text message... instead, their phone would go off, say new voicemail, and an indicator would toggle.

However, on my Pearl with Sprint, I get the same thing the OP gets, which is an out and out text message when someone leaves me a voicemail, in addition to an indicator.

I can live with this; but my biggest complaint since switching from a Nextel 7100i to a Spring 8130 is that there is no counter to tell me how many messages I have. Further, if anyone leaves me a message when I have at least one new message in my voicemail box, I don't get any indication of a new message.

Is this standard, or is something a miss in my voicemail settings on the other end?

Question To Explain Further...

I am getting an "icon" indication of a voicemail AND a text message that says 1 NEW VOICEMAIL for every single voicemail I get. The icon I like, the text message I don't. I am stuck in the Blackberry-Verizon loophole now. I call Verizon because it's their phone so they should know how to fix it, they tell me it's a Blackberry problem so I call Blackberry, Blackberry tells me it's a Verizon problem.

I don't charged for text messages so that's not the issue it's just annoying to have to go through my Voicemail, delete that message, go to my text messages sift through my inbox and find the voicemail and delete that too! I don't need to know I have a voicemail twice. Really!

Anyone else have Verizon that has sucessfully gotten rid of this problem?

Yes, crisambo, I think we are all on the same sheet of music here... he is referring to the actual messages list text message, and I was attempting to further clarify that the notification is as well a form of SMS message. And as others have said... I've not been able to get them to NOT send either. On AT&T I don't get the "message" list message, only the popup alert which also make an alert sound.

At times I have gotten "VOICEMAIL" in my "MESSAGES" folder. When I get a voicemail It say's "Network Notification: New Voice Mail message waiting: OK or Save". If I highlight & hit "SAVE" it will put "VOICEMAIL" in my "MESSAGES" folder.
If I hit "OK" it does not.
I hope this sheds some light on any this.

Rolo

Same.
That's the only time I ever actually get a message in my inbox.. Other than that, it's just the "Network Notification" pop-up

no message count is standard; it not telling you when you have more than one new voicemail is not

I have the exact same issue and would love to find a way to get rid of that text message. I am just fine with using the icon all on its own. Same as you, I don't need to be told twice!

I get this popup or screen splash....whatever you want to call it...EVERY TIME I get a new voicemail....I can get up to 75 calls a day so this is highly annoying. If ANYONE is ever succesful in getting this turned off please post !!!
When I called AT&T about it I got a real winner on the phone....he said "I have a Blackberry and mine doesn't do that"......

Okay, I have had an 8100 Pearl from tmo since the day they were released. About a few weeks ago I upgraded to an 8120. I have NEVER gotten the actual text message in my list box for a voicemail up until a week or two ago. What's the deal with this!? It is very annoying as I would much rather use the voicemail icon indicators on the home screen.
