Hello Pearl owners

I'd like to buy a 4GB miniSD card but am not sure whether it's supported. My BB is a 8100 with OS 4.2.1.

I read that it supports 1GB, 2GB and that it does NOT suport 8GB (true?). Also, I found a thread started in 2006 where people stated that 4GB was not supported then but I'm not sure if this is still true.

I just bought a 4 GB A-DATA SDHC Class 6 Turbo microSD card from Newegg for $25. for my 8100. WORKS GREAT!

Too quick because this question has been asked about 1.2 Million times in the last 6 months!

if I upgrade my 8100 with OS 4.5.0.81 or above, how should I format a 4Gb OR 8Gb OR 16Gb microSD??
from the phone or from Windows???

just put it into the phone and it will format itself and set up the default folders.

so I can put in any 4Gb or 8Gb or 16Gb microSD card in the 8100 powered off, and when I'll powere it on, the OS will settle the microSD formatting it and creating all the system folders AUTOMATICALLY??

I thought I had read somewhere on the net that microSD greater then 4Gb should be formatted and settled up from Windows....but as you say this is not necessary with OS 4.5.0.81 or above, right???

has been my experience that if I format it on the PC then put it in my phone, the phone puts it the way it wants it. I would't go so far as to say it formats it, but it makes a file structure that it wants regardless of what is already there.

No, you shouldn't have to format a 4gb card in windows if you are running 4.5 on your BB... you might want to, but you shouldn't have to do so.
