Default 8130 on Verizon, new user, some questions

Please Login to Remove!

First and foremost, awesome phone. I've had smart phones for quite awhile now, starting years ago with the Treo 600, then the Pantech PN-820, and finally the Pearl. By far the best smart phone ever made.

Anyhow a few questions/issues for the new guy?

1. I'm unable to access my BIS account. At the verizon store they never tone me I needed too, now I'm realizing I need to set some filter issues for my gmail account (yay for receiving messages I just sent). Anyhow when I got to the website and enter my ESN/PIN it says I can only access it through my device. When I access it through my device via the "Setup Wizard" I don't get the option to set filters. On top of that I didn't get unlimited internet, only the email service, so I'd rather not be browsing via my phone.

2. Is there a way to change the buttons on my home screen other than changing themes. If not is there a way to create my own themes?

3. I text a lot. Is there a way to have a seperate button or tab just for my sms/mms messages. That big dumping ground message button that notifies me of every message that hits my phone is kind of a pain to muddle through to find my text messages. My email accounts have their own buttons, can my mms/sms as well?

4. Good free apps/games? I've checked the links at the top but most are not free. I like free, it makes me happy

Thanks in advance!

1.) You need to create a mail username and password from the handheld. Go into email set up. The user the "xxxxxxx" Portion of the xxxxxx.carrier.blackberry.net address as your username on the site. You can then access via PC and setup filter.

2.) Yes, highlight and icon and press menu>move then just drag it. If you want to hide something then highlight and Menu>Hide (To show again menu>Show all. If you are using zen the first 5 in the list will appear on the main screen, just drag the ones you want there to the first five slots of the application list.

3.) Goto the messages folder and hit Menu>General Settings (Seperate SMS and Messages)

4.) Lot's just search the media section!

Good luck and welcome!

1.) In email setup on the device, there should be a "create account" link. Use that to create your BIS login for the vzw login site. (Use this link BTW) https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw

2.) You can move the icon order and put the 5 icons on the main home screen. To move or hide an icon or create folder go to the apps screen and hit shift while you push the track ball

3.) Go to options screen/keyboard and you can assign one of the buttons to that in "...Key opens"

4.) What types of things specifically are you looking for?

Ok, created the email address via my BB and still unable to log in to the website.

Any further advice?

Also, what the heck is Blackberry Messenger?

Oh also while working on my ringtones, I noticed there was a seperate ringtone for when the phone was "holstered"

I don't have a holster, I put it in my pocket.. Is "standby mode" via the mute key considered "holstered"?

Ok so I tried the lost password option, and it said it would send a password to my BB.

What it sent me was a message that said no username and password exsisted, that I needed to access the BIS via my BB. I thought I did that by creating the email account?

What message are you trying to get when you access ths BIS site? You put in the username "Joe.smith" from the email account your created [email address] and the password and it says?

BB Messenger is an instant messenger that you can use between your BB and other people with BB's. You will need to get someones PIN number (Menu>options>Status) will give you yours. Send an invite and you are chatting away. It uses data and not SMS so it's unlimited at no additional cost.

Yes, muted at the top is considered "holstered" I beleive.

I get an error popup that says "check your information and try again" and won't let me log in.

I had that problem too. Does your password have numbers in it, that seemed to be my problem. Then when I tried to have them send me my password, all I'd receive is a txt saying your password is: and then it was blank.

I tried a bunch of times and then it locked me out of the account for too many incorrect attempts.

I had to call vzw (45mins spent on hold) and have them unlock my account and reset my password.

When it was down though, I tried a bunch of crap and had it so I got emails from the RIM server instead of actual emails. Finally got that back to normal, however, I still get a random RIM email on occasion still. I haven't figured out how to fix that yet.

I'm a noob too, I got mine on Thursday. I was a windows mobile user before, this is handsdown better, I just need to finish getting rid of the kinks.

edit to add: I should note, I'm not using a bb email account, just two pop's and a gmail account with desktop redirector going.

Try clearing cache and cookies on your PC. On the handheld Menu>options>Adavanced options>Service Books (Scroll through until you see the @vzw.blackberry.net account. Is the username before the @ sign exactly what you are typing in the username field? Also, see:I can't login to my BIS site on my PC; I'm unable to log in via HTML Browser - BlackBerryFAQ

Good luck!

The issue is with Verizon. You can setup your BB account on your handheld but in order to access BIS on a PC, you will have to call Verizon and have them personally activate your account. Itxxx8217;s ridiculous.
