Angry No Predictive Type?

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a 8100 Pearl from AT&T after many years with Windows Mobile. While I really like the Pearl it is DRIVING ME NUTS! I have suretype turned on and have followed every tutorial... WHY do I still have to type every letter of a word?

I have seen other posts where people are talking about how great SureType is because it suggests words. Mine NEVER suggests words! My device is at the latest software V4.2.1.96... PLEASE HELP!

I looked under language then Input Options, and there is no option for Predictive Text. I just don't want to type every letter of every word... does anyone have a solution for a VERY frustrated new BB owner?

The new OS coming out will have that feature for the Pearl. Currently, it's only on the 8130.

Welcome to the forums!

SureType is not a predictive text technology. It won't suggest words before you complete them. It is a technology that will try to guess the word you are trying to spell, but you do have to type the complete word out.

So the new devices will have predictive text? That's cool. I thought one would still have to type out the whole word. Now I REALLY can't wait to get the 8120.

Thanks, jeremyckitching, but in many other posts they talk about predictive text and how BB suggests words. Mine never does that. I have to type every letter. My Windows devices would suggest words after two letters. I am hoping BB will make this available.. it is a great feature that I REALLY wish BB had!!

Personally, when using the new pearls, I always found it quicker to just type the word. Maybe just me, though.

When OS 4.5 hits for the 8100, you'll have your predictive text.

John, is this also available with the 8120 Pearls with the 4.3 OS?

Except the 8100, right? Because I have the OS 4.3, but I do not have predictive type!

Are you referring to the Desktop Manager v4.3? That is different. The Pearl 8100 does not have the handheld 4.3 (or 4.5) OS available right now (unless there are betas out there). You have the 4.2.1.96 OS installed on your BlackBerry.

I have and 8130 on Alltel, and I can tell you that the Predictive Text can be an awful pain in the ass, sometimes, most of the time, or when the every word except the one you want is in it's list. It's not all it's cracked up to be. But YMMV and probably will.

Go to Settings -> Language -> scroll down to input language and select English(United States).
