Ok so here goes. I'm new to this forum and my company decided to purchase BB Pearl's 8130 for Verizon service. We have the server software installed and everyone BB is syncing wirelessly with Outlook. This is great except for the email portion of it. These are the issues we are seeing:

1- When you send an email from your desktop / laptop is saves a copy of this message in your message folder on the BB. Is there any way to turn this off? Our IT guy said he can but then when everything syncs you will not have a copy of your sent mail in Outlook. Sound logical, but I am sure theres a way.

2- When you are actually at work and sitting behind the desk you get your email on your BB and desktop? This is just annoying, is there any way to determine when you want the emails sent to your phone?

3- Some of us have other email accounts (gmail, yahoo, aol) and we have synced them to our devices and it created a seperate folder. All mail, texts, voicemail, BB Messanger still go into the main message folder, but is there any way to have a seperate folder for your text messages, work email, gmail, ect ect?

I know there is probaly some easy and stupid answer for all of our issues, but if anyone knows the people on here will. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Regards,

Kevin

1. This is normal. Your IT guy is right.

2. If you have Desktop Manager installed on your work PC there is a setting in there to "not send email to handheld while connected" meaning if you plug the device in and have Desktop Manager running it won't send mail to the handheld. If you don't have desktop manager, then you can go to Messages >Options >Email Settings and set "send email to handheld" to "No."

3. You can separate text messages by going to Messages >Options >General Options and set "sms and email inboxes" as desired. All other messages go to the "Messages" folder and there is no way to turn this off. There is a 3rd party app called BES Mailbox that will create a separate folder for your Work email but everything still goes to Messages. Personally, I hide the other icons and just use the Messages folder.

Turn off redirection of the Sent folder.
On the device:
Messages > Options > Email Settings > click menu button > Folder Redirection
Expand the tree and uncheck the 'Sent' folder.

No, you can't alter the schedule.
If you use Desktop Manager on the desktops, you can configure them to disable redirection of messages to the handheld while they are cradled. This would mean you need to connect the BlackBerry to your PC via USB cable when you wanted to stop messages from being delivered to it.

See 1.3 here:

Make note of the part that mentions Empower BES Mailbox.

Thanks for the replies, they have worked. My only question is I downloaded the frre trial of BES Mailbox and it is good but the BB Messanger log still goes into that folder. I mean I can live with that but I thought it should only be dedicated to your server email? Am I missing a setting?

You can turn off BB Messenger logs in the Messages box using this setting:

BlackBerry Messenger > Options > Show Conversations in Message List = No

Lots of questions today sorry.....

Now I have moved my emails from my inbox on my desk top and either deleted them or moved them to a different folder. They still show up in my BB. When the BB syncs with the server shouldnt the messages I delete also delete off of the device as well? How do I make that happen?

It'll happen on its own. It's not something you need to force.
It also depends on "how" you deleted the messages in Outlook and how your BES is set up by your IT department.
By default, anything you delete in your Outlook inbox should also delete from your BlackBerry... immediately.

If it's not happening, check this setting on the BlackBerry:
Messages > Options > Email Reconciliation > Wireless Reconcile = On

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I have Desktop Manager installed (but don't use BES), and I cannot find a setting for this.

Can you help me with this setting?

I'm sorry, that was a really incomplete reply from me. I am trying to stop emails from going to my phone when I am connected to my laptop.

That setting is only for BES users.

Default sent email question

Hi, i'm a newbie and I was looking for a way to NOT send "sent" emails from my
computer to my BB pearl. I read above thread and it says:

[quote=penguin3107;889055]Turn off redirection of the Sent folder.
On the device:
Messages > Options > Email Settings > click menu button > Folder Redirection
Expand the tree and uncheck the 'Sent' folder.

But when I get to "folder redirection" and click my trackball, all it shows is my email address (gmail) and it cannot go anywhere else. What do you mean by "Expand the tree"?

is there a way to stop sending "sent" mail to my bb?

thank you!
