Has anyone been able to find out if a standard bluetooth headset will now play music via th emedia player in the new software?

no, stereo bluetooth headsets will be supported on the 8100. from what others have said, i think xplayer will support standard headsets (not 100% on this as i have never used the app)

So stereo bluetooth and standard bluetooth have a different protocall when it comes to delivery from the phone, and not a decoding in the headset?

that is my understanding yes. other model BBs support the stereo bluetooth already, but not standard bluetooth for music.

when pairing a BT headset, upon first connection the available services are listed. these services can be viewed under the Device Properties menu under Set Up Bluetooth.

for my Jabra BT500:

• Hands-Free unit
• Headset

for my Jabra BT620s:

• Hands-Free unit
• Headset
• A/V Remote Control
• Stereo-headset

so the available features are determined by the headset features as read by the device's Set Up app.

i did use the BT500 with dollars5 mediaPlayer for a week (trial), so i think third party apps might muscle the audio through the BT connection, side-stepping what the device wants to do as based on the loaded properties.


BTW: the Jabra BT620s are quite keen, although a bit thick on the atmosphere. the A/V RC works well for volume, PLAY/PAUSE and BACK/NEXT, but forward and reverse tracking do not function.

I have a bluetooth car kit and I use Xplayer to play my music over my car radio on my 8100 Im sure you probably can do this with a standard bluetooth head set. Hope this helps you.

You can use XPlayer, by ShapeServices, or mediaPlayer, by Dollars5, to play music through BT connection for standard BT devices. For both apps, select settings, then for audio path select Bluetooth. I use my Jabra BT5020 everyday for that purpose.

FYI: XPlayer is free while mediaPlayer has a cost, but an older version is included in the multiPlay which is free.

P.S.: My bro has 4.5.0.10 on his 8320 and it does not have the option for BT audio using BB media player.

xPlayer works fine for bluetooth headsets and stereo heaphones on 4.5.0.18 on 8100 Pearl. However, the default player will not play through standard bluetooth headsets, yet stereo headphones work.
