| 8100 Randomly Turns Off Then Back On??? Please Login to Remove! I'm having this weird issue (about twice a week), where my Pearl (8100 w/ T-Mobile) shuts off, then immediately comes back on. It doesn't seem like it's a full shutdown because when it comes back on, it's already connected to the EDGE network, and doesn't have to go through the whole connecting to gsm, then GSM, then EDGE process. It is annoying though to have it happen during a conversation or whatever. Has anyone else experienced this?

| You could check free space....other than that you're leaning more towards a software reload if you have tried powercycling the device already | | Offline

However mine is a bad battery and some times instead of starting back up again it shows a battery with a red iline through it. Do you have that? Otherwise i would suggest doing a clean sweep and then reloading the software. | | Offline

I'm new to having a blackberry and I am having the same exact problem. Tmobile told me to do a software upgrade, which I did, and I am still having the same exact problem. When mine shuts off, my phone will say "searching for network" and the only way that I can get it to go back to normal is to take the battery out and restart my phone. If anyone has an idea of what is going on I would love to know. Because it is really annoying. | | Offline

| Yup. Tried powercycling, upgraded the OS, and it still happens randomly. Just found out my friend's 8100 does the exact same thing. Wonder what's going on? Seems like only T-Mobile people are experiencing this. Is that true?

| Just checked. Nope, that feature's not on either.
Not having the issue with the red line through the battery either. When you do an OS upgrade, does it wipe the phone clean then upgrade?
Also not seeing the "searching for network" either. It just turns off, and then immediately right back on and it shows that it's connected to EDGE (without going through gsm and then GSM).

| I've having the so problem, it gets so annoying. Has any resolved this issue yet? I'm thinking about just getting a new Blackberry, maybe the 8120 or the Curve. I've wiped my whole handheld and updated my OS. | | Offline

It was annoying as hell, I did everything else. It came down to battery or the phone. Your provider will obviously opt to try swapping out the battery first. Good luck!

| Might sound far fetched, but have you tried cleaning the contacts on Pearl and on battery using some kind of head cleaners (remember those from yester years) or similar thing that won't melt any plastic components
Have you tried complete wipe and reload?

| The battery switch doesn't work. And yes I have wiped my phone and reloaded recently. But maybe I didn't do it right? If the problem doesnt resolve I think I might go ahead and buy the Blackberry Kickstart or the Curve. | | Offline

| Hmmm.... I guess it's the phone then. I wiped mine clean, reinstalled everything, cleaned the contacts, and the new battery was the only thing that finally worked. I guess try swapping in your phone (if it's still covered) if you can. Maybe?

| My phone is not covered anymore all though I still do have insurance on the phone that I gave to my sister? I bought the current one off Craigslist, everything went fine until now. Can someone explain cleaning the contacts? Im wiping the handheld again and reinstalling the new OS again.

| Pop out the battery and pop out the SIM card (SIM might be overkill, but since you're taking stuff out, why not). Then take a q-tip and wipe all the metal contacts: battery contacts, contacts in phone for batter, SIM, and phone contacts for SIM cards.

| Wiped phone again and ran DM, cleaned all metal contacts. Phone has not shut off by itself yet. I'm hoping it doesnt, I really dont want to buy a new phone, my contract ends in Aug 09.
