Welcome to BlackBerry Forums.

This is a very common question; check out the FAQ at How do I unlock my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

Good luck!

Welcome to the forums. You will need a service like GSMPhonesource to provide you with the unlock code.

Unlocked Curve GSMPHONESOURCE! so fast!

Good Luck!

As far I know, you can call ATT Customer Service and tell them the story "I will travel for a while and want my phone unlock so I can use abroad", which is in your case, a true story, they will be happy give you the unlock code for free. T-mobile do that all the time without even ask you any single question.
Then you follow the instruction link above to unlock your phone.
Or if you don't mind paying people $30 - $48 for the code, then go to websites like GSMphonesoure and purchase the code.

I would try calling the carrier first with the tale that you are going abroad and want to use a local sim.
