Default Question: 8130 EVDO speeds and Sprint Plans

Please Login to Remove!

I have done a search and no luck in finding my answers. Has anyone been able to compare the speeds of EVDO and if it is pretty reliable in most places? I currently have an 8100 with AT&T but also have a line with Sprint and was itching to get an 8130.

The 8100 is for business but if I can upgrade with the 8130 with Sprint I may just use that line instead. Not sure if it is worth the trouble, and I was wondering what the best data plan is from Sprint. I keep seeing this $30 unlimited data, text, tv, etc. here in the forums but can't seem to find it anywhere on Sprint's website.

So basically, if I can get more for my money with the Sprint plans and if the network is faster, it may be worth the trouble. I'll just make my 8100 a regular phone with no data.

Any thoughts?

I think EVDO it's noticibly faster, although I didn't have an EDGE device long enough to really compare (I demo'd both AT&T and T-Mobile devices, but the coverage in my area is not all that great for them, so it probably wasn't the best test).

The $30 plan with Sprint is a great deal - just ask for the $30 Sprint BIS Plan - well worth it.

Wirelessly posted (8330 Sprint)

If your going to use it with a BES, you'll need the $39.99 plan. It also includes unlimited phone as modem.

As far as the speeds, there is absolutely no contest. Sprint's EVDO is much faster, and has a much larger footprint.

So all I need to do is simply ask? Sounds easy enough, I'll try that. It's just the Sprint BIS data plan right? It doesn't come with anything else correct?

Sounds like EVDO is a big difference, maybe I'll try it out or find a demo of it. It may be worth the switch since I'm already paying $30 for unlimited data with AT&T.

Make sure you specify you want the $30 BIS BlackBerry Data Plan. Use the word 'BlackBerry a lot.

EDIT: The name that appears on my invoice for this plan is "Sprint Power Vision Blackberry Pack"

The Sprint EVDO is much faster than my son-in-laws Edge Blackberry plus "phone as modem" is included free. Verizon charges extra for that. Sprint coverage is also great. I haven't had a problem yet and it's been two years.

sprint phone coverage and data packages are great. the speeds i get on my 8130 are unbelieveable, i never have a problem with getting a signal except when i am really deep in large store like home depot, then i will have about 1 bar but phone still works perfectly fine. only down side to having sprint is there customer service is the worst. but if you search the right forums you can find CS numbers that don't require any wait time and the person on the other end knows what they are doing.
