Default Buttons aren't working =(

Please Login to Remove!

I just got home from work to find that my Blackberry Pearl turned itself off in my pocket. No biggie, right? Just turn it back on! Well, pressing the on button didn't work, so I took the battery out and put it back in. It verified the security tests but now the buttons aren't working, and neither is the trackball click. The trackball still scrolls but nothing happens when I press down. I have called my phone to see if some phone-on-phone magic could happen but alas, my buttons are still not working.

Can anyone help me?

welcome to the forums. has your phone been dropped or have you gotten it wet? Also with the device in your pocket if you lean on it you can cause physical damage to the innards of the phone. Pull the battery for over a minute and place it back in. Try updating the software to the latest version and see if that works. if neither of those work you may have to get a replacement device from VZW (provided it isnt physical or liquid damage)

Hmm, I haven't dropped it since it last started working but I did spill soda down my arm (silly waitressing job!) I'll try both of your suggestions, thank you so much! Oh, actually just as I typed that, I put the battery back in after having it out for a minute and the buttons are working but they're a tad jumbled up now. Pressing the left button will bring up random applications, it's odd.

liquid damage it seems. and soda is very bad with the acid and the sugars. you can try taking the device apart and letting it dry but you are almost certainly out of luck.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I spilled syrup in a device. My device eventually started to work properly after a few weeks. I think certain components need to dry out.

Ooh, wet AND sticky. I think that would constitute a Blackberry nightmare.
