Subject: 8120 Pearl Phone Reset work around

Team

As many of you know I have a rich library of media on my BlackBerry Curve and have almost maxed out my micro sd. Yesterday I set up my 8120 and started to use it. I had taken some pictures with it and hooked it up to my PC to move the files around so I could send them via email. After the transfer I received a call and during the call the phone reset itself. Then afterwards every 5- 15mins the phone would reset itself. I removed all the Third party apps immediately and wiped the handset. I then reinstalled 8120 software. Afterwards I went through 7 hours of the device constantly resetting itself. For those of you who tried to call me I apologize. After doing some research I have found that the device was resetting because of the Media Card. If you have Media on your card from a previous BlackBerry and install the card into your 8120 you may have similar issue.

To fix this issue

Remove memory card from 8120

Backup the Media on your PC then reformat the card using your PC. This will clear the card of any directory errors your new pearl thinks it sees. This will also erase all media on the card.

Make sure you install the latest BlackBerry Desktop manager (the disk that came with your new 8120=) and go to T-Mobile.com and install the Handset Software.

If you have not received your 8120 yet or used it yet then you may not need to wipe it and reinstall the handset software. If you have or your customer has and is experiencing this issue then they will need to do a handset wipe.1. Security options, menu button, wipe handset, type in Blackberry, and wipe handset. If you are doing this for a customer make sure you backup their info 1st using the desktop manager, this will clear out all data.

If you are transferring information from an older blackberry to the new phone please use the desktop manager xxx8220;Switch Device Wizardxxx8221; Tool. If not then you may now restore data using the desktop manager xxx8220;Backup and Restorexxx8221; tool

After you have transferred the data and set up your phone, put in your xxx8220;like newxxx8217; micro sd. Then go to Options, Media Card, Reformat Card> this will again reformat the card making sure the phone can read it and make the file directories needed.

Your phone should be working fine. Now for your beloved media. Start your desktop manager, and use the xxx8216;Media Managerxxx8217; application to transfer to your phones Micro SD card. ** Make sure you use the optimize media option that will pop up when transferring. ** Also only transfer one file at a time ** The Media Manager Software is very slow make sure you have sometime on your hands =)

** So far it has been a good 13 hours no reset, so I am fairly certain that this should fix the issue. DO Not Return Devices For This Issue. Also there is a known issue in streamline about the phone resetting while on a UMA call, not sure if this is related but it states it will be fixed with the next OS.

Thanks Team Hope this helps !!

OK, I tried everything in the above, still goes into re-boot when accessing media card. Any thoughts?

Do you have a 1GB or smaller card?

OK, I seem to have isolated the problem - the reboot occurs when trying to access some photos downloaded on my old BB. It saved them as a JPG, but for some reason, no software is able to read the file (i.e., in Windows Explorer using thumbnail view I don't see the file just an icon). Photos taken from the old BB or downloaded to a PC then transferred over are okay.
