I've had my Pearl for three weeks and aside from the couple annoyances like having to go into an application to check the battery level and having to go into profiles to check whether the phone is in vibrate or normal or whatever (since there is no icon to tell me it's in vibrate) I like the phone. These things I think I can live with. However, the other day the phone started turning itself off, or I thought it was turning itself off. I noticed this only happened when I had the phone in my pocket. I usually carry my phone in the back pocket of my jeans, the phone is snug in my back pocket (I'm female, I wear tight jeans). I lock the keyboard before I put the phone in but apparently locking the keyboard doesn't lock the power button. I finally tried this on my own, when I lock the keyboard and hold the power button for a couple seconds the phone turns off. If I hold the power button again the phone turns back on. What good is a keyboard lock then? Am I doing something wrong or was this phone really designed with a keyboard lock that locks every key but the power button? If this is the case I think I may return the phone because that's just stupid.

1. There should be a battery indicator on the home screen.
2. There is a profiles icon on the home screen that has a different smaller icon on it indicating what profile it's set to.
3. Instead of locking the keyboard, press and hold the mute button on the top of the phone for about 1 second. This will put it in standby which is better than just keyboard lock. It disables all keys until you press the mute key again.

I have no battery indicator on my home screen, the only way for me to check the battery level is to go into an application. I stopped in a Verizon store the other day to ask them about it and I was told that's the way this phone is. Although I typically don't put much credence in what the Verizon reps tell me.

I also have no profile indicator on my home screen.

There should be a couple of other themes loaded on your device. Go to Options >Theme and try a different one.

Thanks Mr. Bean, I mean John Clark. That totally was it, I never even thought to try a different theme. I now have a battery indicator on my home screen.

So, a new theme and using Standby instead of keylock should have you all fixed up?

I am experiencing the same problem on my 8110. I will lock the keyboard and when I pull out the phone an hour later its off.

Is this a software problem? Is something wrong with my BB?

I am experimenting with the sleep mode right now to see if it helps...

Using the standby has solved the problem for me. The only thing now is sometimes when I pull the phone out of my back pocket my thumb presses the top of the phone and hits the standby button taking it out of standby mode. It seems a little too easy to get the phone out of standby, all you have to do is quickly hit the button once. But it's nothing I can't live with.

Try locking the phone then putting it in stand by mode. That should allow you to take it out of your pocket and keep it on even if you accidently hit the stand by mode button again. And theme I found that has both the battery indicator and the profile indicator is BB Dimension Zen. Also if you press and hold down the button to the right of the 0 key (it has the # symbol on it) it will auto change your profile from Vibrate to Normal for you.

I been using the Sleep Mode along with my holster. It seems to be working better than keyboard lock.

Is this a common issue with the BB Pearl? this is my first BB.

I did not have this problem on my 8100, but it is a problem on my 8110. It could be a bug in the latest firmware, or it may be a retarded feature?

I've found that the keyboard lock does work for key press&release, but fails to work for keys that are held down. Holding down the power button turns off teh phone, holding down the # key changes the profile to vibrate, all while the keypad is supposedly locked.

My old 8100 was running 4.2.something, this 8110 is running 4.3.something.
