Default Using BB as telephone only - possible?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello the massed wisdom of the forum.

I've just been asked if it's possible for a Blackberry (most likely a pearl but could be a curve or 8800 I guess) to work just as a mobile phone, ie with no data or "blackberry services" contract from the telecoms providor.

I think they are looking at standardising *all* mobile devices in our business, removing existing mobile phones and replacing them with non-data enabled pearls.

This is an "in theory" question only, as our local telecom providor may well refuse to sell us devices without a data contract anyway, but is it possible?

Thanks in advance...

Wirelessly posted (life goes on! yes it is tough)

Yes you can use a BB as phone only. The pearl works very well for this!

Could it be done yes. But it would be up to the carrier as you said to provide the BB without data.

Thanks, that's exactly what I thought. We're negotiating a contract for a reasonably large purchase of devices, but we possibly don't want to data-enable them all, so negotiations required us to know whether it was technically possible or not. As to whether the incumbent supplier will be happy about this is a different question all together!
