what's the maximum size sd card i can use?

It is microSD, Transflash or microSDHC. Look for these size SD cards.

What kind of phone do you have?

Most OS 4.2 are only up to 2 or 4 GB depending on the model. 4.3 is up to 8 GB (which is what I have in my 8120)
