Default A question about sure type - 04-30-2008, 08:44 PM

Do I have to change each individual category in my phone (i.e. messaging, browser, note taking, texting etc) to use multi-tap type typing? I absolutly hate sure type! How can I change my setting so that multi tap is applied to all typing in my phone?

Wirelessly posted (life goes on! yes it is tough)

Suretype is better given that it has had time to learn

While some people never like SureType, given time a lot do. My #1 advice is to not look at the screen while you're typing and just press the keys once for the word you're typing. Only make any corrections when you get to the end of the sentence (or every few words).

And to answer your original question, no, one you set it to multi-tap, it should be multi-tap everywhere. (((shudder)))

Once you change it on whichever screen you are typing something in, it should stay like that until the next time you want to type something no matter what application it is in.

You know, you were absolutely right. Suretype is kinda nice! But you have to do as you advised (don't look at the screen while typing) just go ahead and type whatever it is you're trying to say and look up at the end. I found that most of the time suretype got it right with a few misplace letters here and there (but very few). Thanks, I'm growing more confident in my BB.

SureType is a hate-love relationship. You hate it at first until you figure out how it works. Then you LOVE it!

are and see are tough ones. However, be sure to go in and clean out your custom wordlist. It gets full of errors and then the suretype picks up your errors as words that you want.

I've never done that. If that's a good thing to do from time to time how do I accomplish that John?

Options >Custom Wordlist. Don't delete the whole thing but go through and delete words that are errors or that you don't want.

Lol, I end up just deleting the whole thing because it takes too long to go through every word by the time I realize I should clean it up

Well, that's basically throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Now the words that you wanted it to learn have been thrown out. It has to start over learning your words. You just want to get the mistake words out. Otherwise, it will think your mistake words are words that you want.

lol...
I end up with more mistake words than real ones most of the time..
The 10 or so I make it learn are learned with in seconds of me clearing it all out...
I mean, really, who liked that baby anyway? I joke, I joke!

Most of my custom words come from emails, so yeah, I just delete them all, add my 10 or so back in with my first texts I send and I'm good for another month =D. If I had a lot more words that it didn't know though, I definitely wouldn't just go delete the whole list

I think you can go to Options >Language and turn some of the learning options off like email, etc.

oooo really?!?!? I must go and check this out for myself!
*checks*

hmm, I'm not seeing it in languages, I will look around more for it though!

-edit-
I see it for all messages, but I still want it to learn most of what I get in texts, just not emails haha

I just got an 8130 and I'm anxious to learn Suretype. When I follow directions and hold * down while in a text field, the symbol table pops up but it doesn't switch to multi-tap. Is there a setting that's not correct or am I just having a senior moment?
Thanks

That explains it! I thought there was a way to toggle back and forth. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I really like how SureType knows not to re-enter the same letter if you just deleted it (well, most of the time!)
