TMobile Email Setup Problems -
05-10-2008, 08:12 PM
I'm new to blackberry and I am trying to set up my personal email. I went to the tmobile site and set up email addresses. I've also sent the service books from the tmobile site. However, I still have no email access. When I view the setup wizard on my phone it only gives me options to 1) setup BES or 2) skip this step. I don't have an option to set up a personal email. I've tried rebooting, this doesn't work. When I try to create an email it says "no message services configured" Does anyone else have any ideas what is wrong or what I should try? Thanks!

Welcome to BBF!
Do you have a Blackberry Data Plan enabled on your account? It's $19.99/mo and required for email. There is also an email only plan for $9.99. Do you have either of these?

As far as I know, you would not have the link to BIS setup page from the my t-mobile web page if you did not have the blackberry data plan on the account. At least that has been my experience. So I assume you do have the data plan.
When you sent the service books, did you get confirmation from tmobile web site that the service books were sent? Did you get the messages on the blackberry that the service books were received?

I have internet and so on threw T-Mobile.. I am first time BB user and am finding this site a HUGE help.. Thankyou

If you ARE a BES customer, yes that would be the correct thing to do. However, I suspect that if you don't know if you are BES--then you are not. BES is primarily corporate issues devices, and are activated by the IT people in your company.
Otherwise, if not BES, and you don't have the "Setup Email" options, I suspect that you do not have a BB Data Plan, or the Email Only plan from Tmo, as described above by John.

I have the same troubles. I'm still waiting for T-Mobile to activate my net as well (got the phone and changed plans last night).
How long does it take to activate on average?

NFXFSX, welcome to the BBForums.
What data plan with TMo did you subscribe?
Normally, it is fairly quick, under two hours. I really don't know about on weekends...
BUT, if you are certain they have it on your account (they do make mistakes, I have seen it on this forum all to often) , on your BB, go to Options > Advanced > HRT. Click Menu > Register Now. Pull the battery on your device for a minute (while powered ON) replace and reboot the device. You should get a registration email if activated.
Sometimes, the HRT register and battery pull reboot will install the Service Book required for activation.

I did the BlackBerry Unlimited Add-on ($19.99) along with Fav 5 and Unlimited Text but only the last two show up on the site. I called up customer service and it detected all of them.
I did what you said about the HRT and haven't gotten a message or anything.

Just a quick note*** I had t-mobile for a year, AND THEY SUCK! They forget to add things to the account, after telling them 2-3 times sometimes! They are NOT very helpfull when it comes to trouble shooting, and in my opinion, you should find another carrier before it's too late!! Sorry about your trouble with your email, I think I remember having the same trouble, but I didn't set up my email from the website, I did it on my phone first....maybe try asking the blackberry help on set up personal email, see if that gives you any different options. I know I had to call their customer service and had to wipe my handheld in the first week I had it! Good Luck!

Derek, with your BB powered on, remove the battery and hold for 30 seconds, and replace it exactly as you removed it. Allow it to reboot, give it couple minutes and check again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already done a battery pull twice no luck!
Option to set up email is on T-mobile website, I did it there, did not make a difference. However, the data plan does not show up under the billing section of their site. But I've gone back into the store and they verified it's on my account. Is it possible there's some mixup or disconnect in the Tmobile system?

That is very possible. Do you have the BlackBerry Data Plan?

hmm, sometimes it can take 24 hours (although that would be rare), usually a few hours, like two.
Go to Options > Advanced > HRT > Menu > Register Now. That could push the service books you need, as well.

Did that right after you posted, nothing has happened as of yet. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and make the call to their dreaded "tech support" monkeys.

Oh well... glad you checked back there. It happens, you are not the first I have seen here report back that a CSR didn't get the plan on the account correctly.
