Default Memory issue with BB 8100 - 05-12-2008, 03:35 PM

I have been having problems with calendar entries disappearing from my blackberry. Somebody told me it might happen when the device is running low on internal memory. I checked and I have 167,000 bytes free, out of a little over 64 million. I don't have ring tones, music or videos on the device. I keep a minimum number of emails in it; I erase most after reading them.

I only have my address book, and my calendar from which non-recurring appointments older than a week, all of a sudden disappear.

I'm not sure if the disappearing calendar entries issue is related to what appears to be a low memory, so I'd appreciate help on these issues.

Thanks a lot!

Your memory is low, try this link for information: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-logs-sms.html

However, I don't think the calendar normally deletes. However, I could be wrong. But have you checked calendar/options/Keep appointments? There you can change how long they are kept.

Also you can pull the battery to help clear up memory. With the phone on, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds, then replace.

Thanks Wanda.

The links to clean up memory are great. Hopefully they will clear up my issue.

I do have my appointments to be kept forever, so that is not the problem.

Thanks again!

FYI -

You should try for at least 12mb 12,000,000 File Free. It would be better if you can get it over 16mb.

Good luck and I hope that it solves your issue!

With my 8100 I need to keep 18mb as the absolute lowest number and preferably over 20mb. I am guaranteed to have my BB start erasing things if I fall below 18mb and overall performance speed falls and I get the dreaded hour glass a lot whenever I drop below 20mb.

Maybe the amount a person needs 'free' varies?

I agree re: each blackberry needs a different memory size before the deletion of numbers occur. Before placing my 2 g micro SD card, my memory could go as low as 15 K before any deletion occurred. After placing my SD card, it has to be 20 K or above or it erases my call history. Anyone else seen this happen?

I found the memory hog to be the browser cache, when I frequently clear the browser cache none of call logs or text disappear. Now if I let the cache fill up then I lose my call logs and text messages not saved. Wish RIM would find and allow a way for me to use my micro sd card for browser cache.

After successfully getting back up to 34 MB of memory in my 8100 Pearl, it now has gone down to 33 MB, without doing anything! No new calendar entries, contacts or anything else. I diligently erase all emails after reading them. I seem to be losing 1 MB per day.

I have read that some users have to do a battery pull once a week or so to avoid a memory leak.

In theory, I have the latest software installed in my BB (v4.2.1.96, platform 2.3.0.78).

Has anybody found another option to avoid these memory leaks other than the battery pulls? I mean, is this a problem that can be solved?

Thanks for your help!

That's not a memory leak. That's just normal usage. Email in, SMS in , browser changes. If you've got 34mb free. Don't even worry about it. Just use it. You won't have any trouble unless it gets below 10mb, and you've got a long ways to go.

I don't think most 8100s can get that low without major problems. Mine starts really slowing down if I ever get below 20 and will lose call logs, etc at 18.
