When you press shift delete you are permanently deleting the email, skipping the deleted items folder. My guess (and it is a guess!) is when an email is moved to the deleted items folder (by pressing delete only) that initiates a reconcile with your BB. When you skip the folder, the reconcile trigger isn't pulled.

Check with your BES Admin. If Hard Delete has been enabled on the BES, then when you use shift-delete in your client that messages should also be deleted from your device.

Hard Delete is not enabled by default - the BES Admin would have to allow it.

It's a setting on the BES, not on your device.

Click on the server name, then the Server Config tab, then Edit Properties, then Messaging. Set Hard Delete Reconcilation to True.

Oh, well 4.0 doesn't have Hard Delete support. That starts with BES 4.1.

Either upgrade or live without Hard Delete support.
