Default can't use desktop manager without a media carD? huh?? - 05-14-2008, 12:52 AM

just upgraded from my 8703e to the pearl and already hating it. on top of numerous annoyances, i now find that my desktop manager software won't recognize my device as being connected and says "please active mass media storage". i have the option enabled on my phone under media card options, so is the problem that i didn't purchase a media card? no one told me i HAD to have one...

desktop manager shouldnt look for the media card at all. are you talking about media manager? What annoyances do you have? And as a first post about the device, you may want to try the curve/88xx series, as they are more akin to the 8700.

Yes I'm talking about the media manager, where you can transfer pics and ringtones to your device.
As for other annoyances, the fact that I can't turn off dial from homescreen, which means i can't use the shortcuts like ont he 8703e (i.e. "m" for messages" etc). Don't like the non-full keypad, not crazy about the trackball, think it's a little too small in general for my liking and will probably get dropped a lot. Oh well, it's for work, what can I say. Not my choice.

see if they can switch you from the 8130 to the 8830 or the 8330. Both of those devices do more of what you want. With the media manager it will tell you this in the bottom pane, but you can still drag and drop files to the device memory on the bottom left

not a problem at all. keep an eye on your free memory. without having a media card you will start to fill up your device quickly (not much free space out of the box) and you will lose call logs/messages

no. but the OS is much larger (more capabilities) on the pearl. it has video on verizon, voice recording, media players, ringtones (more of them and larger) sample videos, etc

So, there is less *available* memory on the pearl than on the 8703e? For messages and whatnot.

Hello everyone I have the pearl. I am really happy with it I finally got the hang of the keyboard and stuff. The only problem is the desktop manager I am having problems transfering the music. It keeps it on the device and then it tells me I have no space for the music. How can I use my media card as it is not giving meno option to change this. I have it to detect my media card on my phone but it won't detect it on the desktop manager. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to change directories in the Media Manager, you should be able to toggle between the device memory and the card. If not try Menu>options>Advanced Options>media Card>Mass Storage Support = ON. Then try dragging the music to it via windows without the Media Manager.
