Hey guys, as most pearl users realized quick, without a data plan you're out of luck with MMS. Well here's an easy way to have MMS without paying for a Data plan or downloading Mobilkom Austria [A1] 4.2.1.101 which includes the service books. Here goes:

Call your provider, go through all the stuff til you talk to a person. Tell them you want to turn on your pay per usage or go to the providers website and use the customer support chat and have them enable your pay per usage. This step doesn't take long.

Next: Go online and enable the Blackberry personal plan. It's like 30 dollars, it doesn't matter as long as you turn on a blackberry plan. Once you add this feature pull your battery for a few seconds and put it back in. Once your phone comes on you should have EDGE in the corner and all the icons for internet use will appear, you will also have a MMS option under SMS now. Once it's on, go back online and remove the Blackberry data plan feature.

You will now have the service books on the phone as well as the pay per usage to enable enough internet to send/receive msgs. If you have a messaging plan you should not be charged for any picture msgs. I never have. Hope this helps everyone. If you need farther help ask. I just did it again with my new Pearl so I know it works.

And that will work until you need to pull the battery to reboot the device once again, wherein you will lose those service books, which will happen, or you will have massive memory loss issues, in which you will lose your SMS, call logs and email potentially.

Hmm.. I never lost them before with my old one. I'll try pulling my battery in a minute and let you know what happens. But I didn't lose the service books last time or any other data. Can you backup service books?

Sounds more trouble than it's worth.

It only took me 12 minutes haha, I guess it just depends on how much you use MMS.

Update: I just pulled the battery for 10 seconds. Everything is still the same and I've tested sending and receiving already. MMS works fine after pulling the battery. Hope someone finds this useful. It's easy and works.

Yes I'm sure the carriers will find this useful. Hint: When you find a loophole, don't broadcast it. It's a sure fire way to have it fixed.

Again, a great workaround to keep from paying for the plan. Just don't expect it to work forever.

I say this because you are not the first to do it this way, and after the service books are removed (eventually) you will lose the MMS.
