Default 8130 gps on US Cellular? - 05-20-2008, 08:41 PM

I am debating buying the 8130 and switching to US cellular -- (also considering the 8830). Comparing features I see both have gps but I couldn't find any mention of it on US Cellular's site. Is it disabled or will I be able to use it?

Is it decent? I don't have gps so I have nothing to compare it to.

Do a search to find more on this. But the US Cellular 8130 GPS is not terribly good. It requires line of sight with satellites, and can take several minutes to lock. Sometimes you have to reset the BB (battery pull) and clear the cache to get it to lock. Essentially, it is a gimmick that has some use but rather limited. I love my Pearl, US Cellular has good service in my area, but the GPS should never have been released as it is.

Default 8130 vs 8830 - 06-23-2008, 02:34 PM

I started with the 8830, the GPS worked great. When my carrier offered the 8130, all things seemed comparable, with a smaller size, so I switched. Other than the size, I would choose the 8830 9 times out of 10 over the Pearl. I am a support tech and am constantly trying to find out what new features will suite my company users well. From a business standpoint, I would recommend the 8830, the camera is the other redeaming feature of the 8130.
