Phone: Pearl 8100. Carrier: T-Mobile. Puck: GlobalSat BT-359

When i go under Settings->Advanced Options->GPS, the puck does not show up. It is however listed in the Bluetooth list.

Is this normal? The reason that I ask is that I have tried a couple GPS apps and they would not work with the puck (Co-Pilot, Amaze). Google Maps and the Blackberry Map program find it just fine.

After you paired your Pearl with the puck, did you enable it with the Bluetooth setup application? You need to do this everytime you want to use it. You also have to change GPS service from Default 911 only to Location On.

if by "enable", you are referrng to going in to the bluetooth and turning it on, then yes.

where does one change the GPS service from 911 to Location on? I get no options at all under the GPS menu...

I have a 8130 and a GlobalSat BT-368i. I go to "Options" then "Advanced Options" then "GPS." That page shows "GPS Data Source" which is my GlobalSat. It also shows "GPS Services." The two choices are "911 Only" or "Location On." Pick "Location On." I'm hoping your 8110 is the same. You might want to read the instructions on setting up your combination at:

i have the 8100, not the 8110. no internal gps or wifi. this is the "barebones" pearl.

i'll check the link and report back it it helps.

the link makes no mention of using any other apps than google maps or blackberry maps. the puck works fine with those programs and telenav, but no others (Nav4all, Amaze, CoPilot, Mapquest).

i don't have any of the options you mention under "gps". nothing shows up there (device or options) and when i hit the menu button, i only get "close" as an option.

i'll send emails to the other vendors tech support to see what they have to say.

I have an 8100 and an RBT 2100 GPS puck I bought from Seidio.
It appears in my bluetooth only and works fine. I use it with google maps and have not used my Garmin GPS since I got it. I think that if your phone has a built in gps then it would appear in the GPS settings menu.

The latest version of Mapquest requires at least that the os be 4.2 or above. If your version is older than that, you'll need to first update your os then re-download MN
